Washing Dishes

What do you do to make washing dishes less work and more relaxing? I light a candle and either listen to a music cd or put a movie in. It's almost zen-like, with the candle. There's a peace that comes from that flame in front of me. Cause I don't like doing dishes, and I have to have something to make it bearable!

For the record, I absolutely hate washing dishes. I always make it a point to use my dishwasher, even if I have to run it multiple times to fit all of my dishes (if I've dirtied a lot). Loading my dishwasher only takes about five minutes, thank goodness. However, prior to having a dishwasher, I used to always listen to the radio whenever it was time to do the dishes. By listening and dancing to my favorite jams, I found that I focused less on the boring task of actually doing the dishes and it went by much faster! Another thing I did to distract myself when doing the dishes was to talk on the telephone. But the music is much better!

Ah, but would you drop your phone by accident, or on purpose? Because if it was dropped, then you'd have to stop doing the dishes. Not really a losing proposition there, is it?

What a wonderful idea, that sounds like a great idea and makes the mundane task of washing dishes which most of us hate doing a little more enjoyable. I always find that if you have someone to help you do the dishes it makes it easier and more satisfying, one washes the dishes and one dries them, you can chat together and the job is done in half the time! If you haven't got a helper then music you can sing along to works wonders as well.

A helper didn't work so well for me. She always wanted to argue. And I HATE drying dishes worse than washing them. Your partner must've been older than mine! Yes? Adult or not?

I almost always have a candle burning in the kitchen, but I also like to buy a nice smelling dish detergent too.

What are your favorite scents? I'm rather fond of lemon, but hate orange. (I wonder if that says anything psychological about me?) :)

Palmolive has a new kind called "Pure and Clear" They have a couple different scents and I like the Spring Fresh scent the best. I have also always loved the smell of Ivory dish detergent. When I was little and we would go to visit my Grandmother in the summer, she would put Ivory dish soap in our bath water because she didn't have bubble bath. I loved getting baths in that scent so much I actually did it myself occasionally when I became an adult.

I use my dishwasher most of the time. When I wash dishes by hand I like to have solid peace and quiet and let the window in my kitchen up. During the spring time its nice I can hear the birds singing outside my window while i clean dishes. I hate housework period!! Candles seem to do that dont they?

I wish I had a dishwasher! Yes, it is nice in the summertime. But how do you cope when it's winter? Candles seem to create such peace. Maybe I'm just zoning out watching the flame flicker. Do you use scented or not?
