Windows is still the most popular operating system in the world. It has more users than other operating systems. But many people don't like it. They think it's too slow and unsafe. You can also try mac os x. It's pretty popular now as many people think it fashionable. But a mac is a little expensive than a pc. Some people are also using linux. I haven't tried it yet. Maybe I should have a try in the future.

It depends on what you're using your computer for. Linux, I hear, is pretty good for programming. When it comes to gaming, some people prefer Mac. Windows has more software compatibility out of a lot of OS systems, though. If you're a casual computer user, Windows is definitely for you.

Hey, Well, I am not exactly sure whether Windows XP is the BEST operating system, but for me it is the best. I like it mainly because it is really easy to manipulate and it is quite easy to learn the basics. The first time I got a computer I had no idea on how to work Windows XP, but because the User Interface was soo good, I learned how to use it is really quickly. Just to warn you, if you have heard that Windows Vista is better than XP? Don't listen to them. All Windows Vista is good at is slowing down your PC. If you still are thinking to upgrade to Vista, just wait a few more months until you can get Windows 7. Windows 7 is the new Operating System that they say is better than windows Vista. All I know so far is that they have increased the shut down and boot time dramatically! Hope this helps!

I would suggest that you go backwards in windows and forward in Linux - the earlier Windows OS like Win98 is much faster than the latest ones like Vista. On the other hand, latest releases/ versions of Linux appear to be more stable and have the same user-friendliness of the windows OS, of course, minus the hefty windows price tags.

I have used several operating systems from Windows 3.1 to Windows Vista. I must admit that I prefer windows 98. I had used it for severa years. it was a good operating system that never failed me. I had to do few reboots. It was a stable system with minor flaws.

Normally the most used and popular operating system is Windows. The reason is its GUI. But otherwise there are certain drawbacks in it. Like it is not a very good hacker proof system, and also doesn't have good firewall. Also it is comparatively less efficient than Linux in server uses. But Linux excels in all these above features, and thus it has a good support system.
