have you given blood to any patient who required it in emergency?

I have never given blood(I was always on the thinner side)to anybody in life, but my hubby gave it twice to two persons in a gap of 4-5 years as there was urgent requirement to save the patient's life. Unfortunately, both the times, the patient could not be saved. My husband got so sad seeing these two incidents, he got superstitious and after that always refrained from giving blood to anybody. Few years back, I had underone hysterectomy, then he could'nt even think of giving his own blood(though blood groups didn't match, but they can be exchanged from Blood Banks). Have you given to anybody in emergency?Have you ever given voluntarily to the Blood Bank?
