I don't know about foreign countries but in India well no one would dare trust any policeman here. They are supposed to be very corrupt, always on sale anyone can buy it, and would always try to implicate innocent persons in false cases so as to take bribes from the innocent person to take his name of the case and also take bribe from guilty party whose name they didn't put in case.. so no wonder only in 6% of murder cases the culprit get any punishment ..rest go scot free for lack of crime.. my question is 1) how honest is police in your country? 2) Do u trust your police?

Dear friend, I am also from India, I could see what you had expressed is majority of right. In my opinion not all police men are corrupt but there are very rare police men who are more loyal to their work and they are suffering most. In India not only police men at times even the court too is not honest, even the judges are fallen in brides and influences. Hence I feel if the corruptions are controlled more and more betterment can be seen. May be a parallel force should be formed in order to safeguard the people and scrutinize the police.

Thanks for BR, I do hope those hones citizens should be given a special grade with special benefits and they should be given the control of rectifying these corrupt situations and moreover they too should be scrutinised so as not to fallen into any corruptions. May be a well planned panel should be formed with direct interference of people so as to people could open their problems more frankly and safe guarding these frank people also should be assured.

It's the same here in the Philippines. Although there are honest policemen, most of them are reptiles and I dare not trust any of them especially when I've made friends with them. Ironic, yes, but I wouldn't dare give them my trust as they are in a place to use me to their advantage. I'd prefer it to be the other way around.

I understand about your feelings. I hope the police is reformed but since politicians use them to settle scores they dont have anyone to reform it nor any disincentives to reform.

I agree with you seishiroX. Most of the policemen use their profession to get money especially to those who are not well-oriented with the law. "kutong" a very known thing in the Philippines. Its a bribery. ...

I agree with you as I am also from India. Our Police are very corrupt. One can never rely on them for protection one must be careful with them first. At the same we do have a handful of honest police officers. But our very corrupt politicians will never allow them to function they way they want to.Its really sad.

I agree. I am from your country, and I know the agony people have with policemen. It is a problem with as such no practical solution. I know this will continue to be like this for years ahead. I do not expect things to change.

I saw an article on Cnn last month that highlighted the police in your country and I said 'My gosh,we in Trinidad&Tobago have a similar situation on a smaller scale'. There are some police officers you can trust and there are some "bad rotten eggs" in our police force you dare not trust so to answer your question...75% police are dishonest in my country and I distrust them 85%. I must add that we have a Police Commissioner who is a little more serious about dealing with these "bad eggs" so I in turn ask you what is being done about the police in your country?

There is a way to get a corrupt policeman on your side but then again you could be betrayed. In my country there are many who are corrupted and yet there are many who are legit.

Most of the police officers in my country are honest. The percentage of cottupt officers is small and many have been caught taking bribes. When the fine is 10 times the amount received and an imprisonment, not many government officers have the courage to be involved in this activity. In general I trust the members of thr police force in my country. all the best, rosdimy

I am born and raised in saudi arabia, there the police is very honest and infact very strict due to which the country is running in a very good way. Nobody dares to bribe the police there, and once they caught you for doing anything wrong they wont listen to whatever you say, they will go according to the law, that is they will give summon or if on that crime you are supposed to be in jail they will put you in jail no matter whatever you tell them. This was the country where i was born and raised. Now I am a pakistani national. And the police is worst than any other country. I think the police in inda would be a million times better than the police of Pakistan. They are so corrupted and they are all mixed with the thieves there. Actually the whole system is bad. they are paid 5000 rupees per month, and a middle class family would need around 30 000 atleast to live a good life, eat and wear like good families. But I dont think i normal person can even bring grocery for food if they are paid that less. The third country where i am living at the moment as a student is Malaysia. Here the system is good, they are paid better but they are cprrupted. People bribe the police here like anything. I am talking about the traffic police I dont know about the crime police. So i think the worst police i have experienced so far is police and Pakistan and the best one is of saudi arabia.

You are right, majority of police in India are corrupt. But all the blame cannot be put on that department, since the department comes under the state government, they need to dance to the tunes of local politicians. Their salaries & facilities are deplorable. The general public is also responsible for this situation to a great extent. We also bribe & take the easier route out, i am sure most of us would have bribed the traffic cop atleast. Don't know if police in other countries are corrupt, but i certainly found them much more helpful than indian police.( may be our police is helpful to tourists too)

Well the system makes people give bribe to police. I was fined for PUC ( pollution under control)certificate and i was to be fined rs 1000/- but i had to go to Raja garden and fill it in court which i agreed now it is June and there is no water and not even a sitting place and given 10 am time ... Yet i was made to stand in sun in june of delhi which is hot and no fan not even a stool to site and then when we paid the fine we were still asked to stand out and only given receipt after 2 hours more. Just think a small fine like this and you are not only given fine but also go through the inhumane treatment and that is why most people would happily pay bribe. After this experience i would rather pay 2000 rs to police man for not givng me challen ( ticket) rather than go through this punishment by police courts ( where they decide how much to fine and they always fine maximum) .

Hi, well where should I start. The state I grew up in profiled people by a persons race. It is still happening. The state I live in now is better, we have many diferent races here.It is better but still see racial profiling.Trust them, not really.

well in india we dont have race problems but we do have caste system and like blacks certain castes were discriminated in India but today they r given so much powers..they can file any case against anyone even for calling them from that caste all they have to give an application in police station that that person called me from that caste and he dont even have to prove it.. the one who he complained against is put in jail with no bail till he is proven innocent. This is one thing police use to settle scores. they pay someone or simply pick one of family member of someone from lower castes ( they constitute about 25% of population) and get in writing this man said this to me and then put the person they want to settle scores with in jail and let him prove himself innocent in court and in case he bribes up or do what ever police personal want they settle it out of court.

I differ from the view expressed here. There are few policemen who are corrupt, but in terms of numbers it is very less. I would say 5% at the maximum are corrupt. When you jump a traffic signal, or talk over the mobile while driving or drive a two wheeler without a helmet, you are offending the rules. An honest police officer can file a charge sheet and collect fine ranging from Rs. 100 to Rs. 1000 depending on the offence How many of us ready to pay such a huge fine. We will be more happy if we can push a 100 rupee note into the hands of Police and move from the police. Had he police been not honest, you cannot sleep peacefully at your home A movie is also being made in Tamil on 'What will happen if the Police department refuses to work in whole day'. It will an eye opener for all those who take them for a ride

Hi, Frankly speaking, the police in our country is no good. Everything can be handled by a little bribe or if you know any high official or politician. This has raised the crime rate by a lot in our country, and that's why I would like to change my country when I grow up. Regards, AJ-Rox

I live in Poland (centre of Europe) and in my country maybe police isn't the best but carry out his tasks. I don't have nothing against police but I hear many stories about policemans. Some of policemans was taking bribe, some of policemans was hitting and persecute abated persons. My friends says that in winter policemans transport they away from town and leve they without boots! Remember that in those days was winter and about 15 degrees Celsius below zero! It is very difficult to belive. However I trust police in my coutry, but they cauld be better. Greetings :)

Hey, Police are very trust worthy in our country. They will never lie or do anything stupid or else they can face court, be fined or even loose their job immediately. I always trust police, because if they weren't trustworthy, lol they will loose their job! Happy MyLotting!

hello friend I too am from India...& i know the system you are talking about. The corruption is very high in spread in India police in every state.Innocence & guilt are decided basing on money or bribe the party gives.I have fallen pray to the system a couple of times & had a tough time to get myself clean. Its very difficult to get the justice out for your self which has to pass through an entangled judicial system. No doubt there are many brave police officers who are making our place a safe place to live in,but for the others it is very pollute a system now. This must be the reason why people here hate to go to the police station that much.

The honest and brave police officers are rare and they don't get promotions.. if u live in Delhi you would remember what happened few years back they killed a businessman.. open fired on his car thinking he is terrorist and without warning or anything and that too in cannaught place.. the heart of Delhi in broad day light and then they tried to cover it and when they cudnt the chief of Delhi police tired to pay off half a million rs ( about 10,000$) to the brother of slain person to not to make hue and cry and public would forget it soon. Thy killed him simply because they been getting out of turn promotions for killing terrorists and medals for bravery and people like this fill up all top spots leaving no promotion chances for honest persons. when the business man's brother told the chief that i give u 1 million rs let me shoot ur mom only then the chief of police of Delhi filed the case against the 11 policeman who killed them mercilessly and though those 11 policeman are in jail the chief of police had no case against him or any departmental inquiry for making this kind of offer.. so we can see how much we can trust them.

Yes im totally agreed with you agrim94. Let me tell you some cases occour on me in malaysia. I've finally got this down in writing... Be paranoid if you must be but don't trust especially "Police". These are desperate times. I have a story which will share some experience from me so you can aware of this case and warn your beloved friends. I was in car accident on 15/11/2008 along the flyover coming up from the Federal Highway in our capital city(KL) in malaysia. My car skidded and went over a road divider. When i come to a stop a few minuts later 2 Malay guys-one driving a blue Satria and the other on a bike passed my car and stopped. They look very decent-clean cut, well dressed like they worked in the office. Both approached me and asked in perfect English whether i was ok and whether i need help. I declined of course as i had already called for help. They hovered for a while and then went off. I decided then to get out of my car to check the damage and when i got out,the 2 guys reversed and came back. At first I thought they were nice guys and just wanted to be sure I was ok. Nevertheless, i ignore them and kept a distance. Then the drama unfolded. The guy driving the Satria opened his car booth and took out a pair of black pants which he then threw on the road behind my car/ The motocyclist then sat down on the divider and began to roll up his pant and took off his shoes and socks! I saw that he had scrapped knee which was rather red. Realising then that something was very wrong.I asked the two guys while still maintaining my distance from them what they were doing. The motorcyclist then turned to me and said " You hit on to me no need to pay?" I was shocked and told them no such thing happened and why they were doin this. The guy then said "You don't be rude as you have hit me sumore you wanted to scold me!!"I quickly went back into my car and called the police(HQ). The response is fast. While waiting for help to arrice I kept praying for protection. The Police came within 5 minutes. BUT, you know, the police whom I thought were heros also turned out to be crooks. The 2 officers approached me and asked me what happened. While i related to them what happened one of them went to speak to the 2 guys who were still hovering around at the back of my car. The remaining cop asked me" How isit now?"I said there was no way i could have knocked them as there was no evidence of damage to their vehicles or injury on them. The cop then asked me" where i work"I told them i work in Bank and he said"Wow so you ar rich!!!"Although on hindsight now it was a strange thing to say(at that pt they were still my heroes) to which I responded that I am only a worker. I don't own a Bank so i don't have money! He then walked to his partner and came back a few moments later and said to me"The guy claims I broke the side mirror of his car" He asked again" So what to do now?"At this pt I was furious and told him that we should all go to Police Station to make our repsevtive reports. He kept quiet at my response. I then blurted out some names of ex-Police Inspectors whom i happen to know and then he went to talk again to his partner and the next thing happened, the 2 guy accusing me left the scene. I was just overcome with relief by then my family had arrived to help. Little did I realise until much later that the 2 corrupt cops were in cohorts with the 2 malay boys to extort some money from me. They let them go without my consent, did not even record their details or vhicle reg nos. NOTHING!!!Imagine the cops who are supposed to protect you are as dirty an corrupted as the crooks roaming our town!!!! Our ex-prime minister whose mission before he leaves his positon say he wants to curb crime in the country and eradicate corruption should go dig out the sh*t in his garden first. They just serve Strenght of Money and I wont believe in Police anymore. What an experience but GOD is good.
