Some sites are better than others. I can tell you from my own experience that Lightspeed and Pinecone definitely pay. The only problem with surveys generally is that you're not always going to qualify for that particular survey, so the income can be variable, but it's still worth being signed up with two or three of the more reliable sites.

There's usually a very short series of questions at the beginning of the survey to see if you fit the demographic they're looking for. This is called a "screener" and if you pass that you go on to take the rest of the survey. They come in different lengths, but usually it takes me something like half an hour to do a complete survey if I qualify for it.

I have to agree with some of the other people here. Believe me, I've spent countless hours signing up for this, that and the other to see if I can actually make a little gas money. I have signed up with several survey sites with an email set aside just for this purpose. This is very important because you are going to get junk mail out the wazoo! Most surveys I did not qualify for or I never received enough surveys to reach cash out. Or worse, spend an hour filling out ignorant questions to earn a penny. I have better things to do. I can go clean my neighbor's couch out and find more than that! I do hope you find one that is legit, but it will take an incredible amount of time. If I were you, I wouldn't bother, but that is just my opinion. You must keep in mind too where you live. A lot may depend on geogrgaphics, career, etc. By the time you answer all the questions only to find you don't qualify, well, you've already gave them the survey. Good luck!

I guess it all depends on the site your working at.For example Global test marketer is a online survey site. Its legitimate,it genuine,it pays but you nedd a lot of patience before you can reach payout. The down side of joining online survey paying sites is you dont get to be qualified to all the surveys,so your income is also limited.

So how do they work? You sign up and then have to wait to be given a survey to complete?Or can you just dive right in and do as many as you like? Thanks for the contribution.

I do online surveys for several sites. Some pay cash and some give you points that you can redeem for cash or gift cards. Some give you points for merchandise. I received two 5 dollar gift cards for best buy, 8 dollars in my paypal, and a personal cd player yesterday from different survey sites I belong to. All of the survey companies I use are free to join. There are many free survey lists available: Survey avalance, survey doctor, survey monkey, etc. Most of them list wether the company pays cash or prizes and where they are available. I also check to see if they are on the scam list. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have to be honest. I have done many surveys and have very little to show for it. There was only one site that actually sent me a check for $4.00. I was shocked. So far that is the most I have seen after all the hours I have spent online doing the surveys. Once in a while I will still do one. But, now, I am concentrating on my writing and getting articles and stories out there. I feel better being able to share information with people.

I have personally signed up for about 5 different survey sites. After about a week I think I have made a total of $3. The only site that offered me more for the surveys that I would complete were the ones who also said that I had to take the survey in addition to a 30 day free trial of something. To me that is just not worth it. I wouldn't exactly say that the surveys are a scam. But you will not make anywhere near as much as they promise.

Lightspeed is a legitimate site and I have been paid four times by them now. Also just got a $30 check from Spot Survey last week. Some do pay and others are scams. These two above are not scams and they do pay.

Well, based on my experience, these online surveys are not really paying what they say they'll pay. You give them you're time and they don't give you the amount that they specified. So after that experience, I stopped trying earning extra money from online surveys. I am not sure if all the online surveys are like the one I tried, but I have no more plans to find out. I am contented with what I am earning here in mylot.

There are very few survey sites that pay out in money. Most of them give you points for gift certificates or other things. There are maybe a handful that will pay you in paypal, or a check. So sometimes they are worth doing, and sometimes they are not, unless I'm saving up gift certificates for something on Amazon.
