Eureka in the House!

Day's over and the dog doo situation is sorted! Thanks to all of you, my area rug is clean, dry, and stain and odor free! Bigs hugs all around for your tips and advice and humor. It made a difficult day a success and we can't have too many of those can we? And I've made a discovery..........if you want to boost up the color in your rug, give it a bath in l part vinegar and two parts water. Lay a towel over it to absorb the excess and then give it a good vacuum and voila! Color comes back like new! Seriously! My area rug is a blend of colors that were looking pretty dull. Now the part I treated, looks fabulous, so I guess tomorrow, I'll treat the rest to even it out. So whoohoo, the hubs is foiled again! He'll never know what happened and I owe it all to YOU guys! And to make this a discussion, when was the last time you had to do something 'behind' your SO's back to keep the peace?

He'll think you have a new rug, if he notices. I haven't had to do anything behind my husband's back to keep the peace that I can remember. He usually knows what goes on and I always find out what he does. If he breaks something, throws something out of mine, etc., I always figure it out! The one thing I wish he'd not do is put the dishes in the wrong places! I just keep telling him and keep moving things. Last night I needed the plastic cover to a bowl and couldn't find it. I already had poured soup up in it and he was gone to bed since he gets up early. I hunted every where for that lid! It goes in a drawer with the rest, but when I use that bowl and he washes dishes or puts them up, he never puts it there. I looked where he usually puts it, but no lid. I had him hunt it this morning and he found it where he had put it in a glass bowl and sat another one on top of it.

I'll just tell him that I vacuumed it really well.........IF he even notices, which he probably won't. lol He never helps in the kitchen, but that's ok, because then I don't lose lids!LOL He bakes though, and I get everything he needs out ahead of time for him so he doesn't have to go looking and when he's done, I clean up. I hate having people who don't cook on a regular basis messing around in my kitchen anyway, so it's no sweat.

Well, my husband doesn't really cook. He can make gravy, eggs, omelets, put on biscuits, but nothing big. But I don't mind him washing dishes. I had been putting them in the dishwasher lots lately, but there is something wrong. He has put a new heater part in there, but he still says they feel sticky. I think it's him, but if he wants to wash them, that's fine with me, although I've washed them today. I'm like you, too. He quite often gets over in my area in the kitchen and gets in my way. I tell him I don't like him washing dishes (soap suds!) while I'm trying to put dinner on. Or start fixing something when I'm trying to put on something else. I had my kitchen fixed so others could sit and watch and we could talk. But, over the years, he's gotten to where he has to be there when I'm trying to cook. Guess it's just getting to be old = uh, older.

Watch out, sparks! He just might notice how bright the rug is now! Better have a good answer ready, like the rug looked like it needed a good scrubbing or something like that! I'm glad it worked for you. Now I know how to do the same should it ever happen to me! Hmmm, the last time I did something behind his back, huh? Well, that must've been last night when I was talking with his sister. LOL We were talking about HIM and it wasn't a conversation he would have been happy to hear. Actually, a situation where it was more to keep the peace, I'd have to say it wasn't too long ago and concerns my sons. They are his step-sons and he's not a very social guy. He doesn't like anyone coming over to visit unless it's his sister. Normally, I really don't care how he feels about it because this is my home, too, and if he can't handle company, ESPECIALLY my sons, he can go hide (which he usually does). Whenever hubby goes out, one or the other, or both, of my sons come over to help me around the house. We always have a blast! There's always a lot of laughing and eating going on, no matter what we're doing. My husband just can't seem to join in. My boys are not very comfortable around him because of this and they know it makes me uncomfortable when my husband is being antisocial. He has a GREAT sense of humor when they're not around but, as soon as they come over, he generally clams right up. So, they come over when they know he won't be here so I'll be happier and it won't upset hubby. But, I'm very happy that you were able to pull this off, sparks! Way to go!

Geez mw, except for the part about the rug, I could have written the rest myself. MORE we have in common! I hear ya about the anti-social thing with the hubs. It puts quite a stain on things sometimes doesn't it? The stories I could/have tell/told! My bad!LOL

This is getting downright spooky, sparks! Maybe we ARE the same person, only in another dimension. This might just go beyond Twilight Zone right into The Outer Limits! At least we know that we each have a good understanding of what the other goes through at times! I'm sorry for you but it's good to know that I'm not the only one out there with a hubby like mine!

Oh, another thing... I have the same back as you, too. It doesn't take much before my back is screaming at me, either! I can totally sympathize with you about shoveling snow and stuff like that.

That is great about the rug and thanks for the tip about colours! I have a few dull rugs at here so I will certainly give it a go. As for doing something behind hubs back...well mostly he is pretty understanding but I don't tell him how long I spend playing on the computer when he is at work! OMG he would freak, We only got the thing so I could write my book and instead all I do is waste time on it! Oh well... one day..

I hope it works for you Lou. My rug is a short pile wool/synthetic blend with a thick jute backing. I should test in on my all wool rug and see how it does there now that I think about it. As for being on the computer.....lol, sounds like my hubs. He HATES my computer unless I'm looking something up for him! ROFL

Hey sparky! He might wonder why the rug is looking like new! I think that is really kind of funny! Just tell him it must be his eyesight playing tricks on him! I had to do something the other day to "protect" my baby Luna! My SO has this thing about knowing exactly how he leaves his stuff! He knows if something is out of place by a hair and I mean that literally! Well, my cat Luna got up on his nightable and knocked everything off it! I freaked because I wasn't exactly sure how to put the stuff back the way he had it! So I did the best I could! I must of did a pretty damn good job because he barely knew that anything was touched if I didn't tell him that I knocked over the CD's! Unbelieveable! Got him! And poor Luna was safe! I didn't tell him the real deal because he isn't too fond of the cats as it is!

Yeah it's usually our pets we have to 'go behind the back of hubby' on behalf of, when they aren't as attached to them like we are. I pretty much tell my hubs everything, but there are some things he just doesn't need to know, you know? LOL

I am sorry that I couldn't offer any advice on your problem but I am glad that you worked things out. I will have to try that vinegar trick, my carpet could definately use a pick me up,LOL. I have two daughters that love to make a mess of my carpet, not to mention all the trafic it gets. I am always looking for new ways to clean it and this is something that sounds cheap and easy to try. Besides it never hurts to try something new. IOh an as to doing something behind my hubby's back to keep the peace, I would have to say that the situation hasn't had to come up yet but if it ever does I'll be sure to ask everyone here for advice,LOL.

well now that this has worked for you think I will test it on a bad stain we have on our carpet! lol Dont even know when the stain happened it just showed up one day and nothing so far has got it to go away keeps coming back. And sure would be nice to see the color come back in it as the carpet is only about 4 years old but then Grnad daughter spells alot and so does her dad and Uncle lol. I had to do alot to keep peace I cant tell when the last time was and was mostly to do with the kids. and then they tried to work both of us and I ended up haveing to tell him why they were grounded lolololol

LOL, My grandmother told me there was a reason that women 'stood 1 foot to the right BEHIND their man'.......it was so she could 'fix his faux pas without him knowing'! LOL But kids have a way of making us stand NEXT to our man and show a united front or they'd take over the asylum! LOL Hope the stain removal works for you Lakota, Make sure to rinse the vinegar out with lots of cold water though or the backing on the carpet will deteriorate. I haven't got a clue how this will work on old stains.........fingers crossed.

Hi sparks, wow..thanks for this tip! I will mix the vinegar and water? I want to do that in our rug! Anyway, in my case, I love cooking fish and hubby don't like the smell..So, when he is at work, I will cook and enjoy myself and spray the entire house as well as light the candles to remove the smell and when he is back, as if nothing happens! LOL!

LOL, I'll have to try that. I usually fry in an open pan, some fresh garlic and onions when I'm cooking fish. That helps keep the smell of the fish down too even if I don't use the garlic and onion on the fish, which I don't always.

Hi, It's amazing that you discovered a new thing within the walls of your house. My mother also likes to read such tips in magazines and other media which can help in easy care taking of your house. The last time I had to do something behind my SO's back was like a month ago. Better not mention it, he's in myLot too...LOL Regards, AJ-Rox

When I started buying lite Miracle Whip I kept the dark blue cap off the regular MW and used it for over 6 months before I told him it was lite. By then I knew he was used to it. lol
