I'm getting married May 9, 2011 and I'm planning my own wedding. I love all the wedding planning magazines, the binders, the papers . . . everything that goes along with planning such a wonderful event. It's overwhelming sometimes, and I completely understand why people hire event planners! Did you plan your own wedding?

Congratulations on your engagement! You still have loads of time for planning and saving money with your wedding in 2011, which is really great. My husband and I got engaged in October and got married the following July - so I had about 8 months to plan. I really enjoyed planning it even though it was hectic and overwhelming. Although, it was my wedding and I knew what I wanted and how I wanted it to be. I don't think I'd like to plan other people's weddings for fear that I would not give them what they truly wanted and also for all the work in organizing it! My wedding was easy - we had the ceremony and reception in the same venue, we had 1 best man and 2 maids of honor with no other bridal party, the ceremony was 15 minutes long and we only had about 95 people. My advice is to try to stay calm and enjoy everything as hopefully you will only do this once in a lifetime so it should be as enjoyable as it can be for you as the bride! Also, on your wedding day, don't stress anything and try to soak it all in and have fun!

Yes, we planned our own wedding. And I was an ocean away, lol. It can be stressful but it's also a lot of fun. Just remember to stay within a budget. Although it's THE day, it's only a day in hopefully a lifetime together. You don't want to break the bank right at the beginning;)

Yep! Planned both of my weddings actually LOL I thoroughly enjoyed it too. I agree with you that it can be overwhelming but, as has been said here, you have plenty of time. I think the most important thing is for you and your fiance to decide on the kind of wedding you want and discuss the big things as early as possible. Get a clear plan of what it is that the two of you want. As you progress through the planning, you'll get SO much input and advice -- a lot of it completely unsolicited. You will have to be strong and stick to your plan... and, above all else, stick to your budget. You'll be doing yourselves a huge favor in the long run if you keep the expenses to a realistic level ;) Congratulations and I hope you have a wonderful time planning!

I am the kind of person who likes doing things like that. If i could do it as my career i would. I like planning baby showers and throwing them together. I like helping with birthday parties. I would totally throw my own wedding together. You know seeking that as a career is not such a bad idea but i haven't put much thought into it.
