I almost just had a major mental meltdown over WalMart pharmacy and my insurance company! I take Lyrica for my fibromyalgia. I needed a new prescription recently and my doctor gave me one. I was sick when I had to pick it up, so my husband went for me. WalMart claimed that they had no record of my insurance! I've only been with them for years now but we've just switched over to the COBRA plan since my husband was laid off just before the new year. According to our insurance carrier (United HealthCare), I was insured from January 1st. But, on January 5, when my husband went to pick up my prescription, WalMart said they had no record of it. My husband said he'd take care of it and got me 10 of the 60 pills I should have gotten and paid cash for them... $28.68. Okay, so we THOUGHT the insurance was straightened out. Yesterday, I called WalMart to pick up the balance of that prescription, 50 pills. They once again said they had no record of my insurance. I haven't received a new card (yet) but did have all the numbers WalMart needed, so I gave them those numbers. They claimed that one of them should not have had any numbers in it at all; it should have been all letters. I told them that this was the number the insurance company gave me. They said they'd call my insurance company, then call me back. Hours went by... they never called. It was getting late, so I called WalMart back. They told me that everything was straightened out and my prescription was ready. I went and picked it up at 7:00 last night, paying an additional $30.72. When I got home, I saw that WalMart had only given me 10 more pills instead of 50! Okay, first of all, they charged me $28.68 for the FIRST 10 pills, then $30.72 for the SECOND 10 pills. What's up with that??? But, I should have received 50 pills, not 10. So, I called them this morning. Again, they're telling me they have no record of my insurance. I'm seeing red by this time! They also told me that what I paid last night was NOT an insurance co-pay. I'm like, HUH??? I told them that I was TOLD by them last night that the insurance was straightened out and I was to get the balance of my prescription, 50 pills, not 10. I told the gal to call the insurance company... again... to get this straightened out. She told me that WalMart pharmacy DOES NOT have insurance companies numbers!!! WHAT???????????? They're ALWAYS calling insurance companies!!! Finally, the actual pharmacist got on the line and said it was straightened out (once again) and that the new balance (40 pills) would be ready for me today and it would cost me $50.00, which is my co-pay for a FULL prescription of this medication! I said, no way! It was YOUR fault that I didn't get the balance last night. I'm NOT paying another $50.00! That's when I threw my phone at my husband and told him that he needed to handle this because I was ready to strangle someone! Okay... on hold again. Finally, the pharmacist told my husband that it would only cost me another $20.00 instead of $50.00. So, my one prescription of 60 pills, which should have cost me a total of $50.00, is ending up costing me $80.00!!! Can you believe this? I HOPE I don't do something rude when I go in to pick up the balance of my prescription today! Have you ever had something like this happen to you at WalMart or any other pharmacy? I want to hear your horror stories, please!

I was going to switch to Costco but there's a Walgreen's much closer to me so I'm thinking about switching to Walgreen's. I went to pick up what they told me was the balance of my prescription from WalMart and guess what? After telling me that I'd only have to pay $20.00 for the balance (after paying $30.72 for the screwed up SECOND 10 pills) they had it down for me to pay $50.00!!! I almost went ballistic! I said "Oh, no! I'm NOT paying $50.00! I was told I'd only have to pay the amount to total $50.00 after paying $30.72!" So, the pharmacist (this one is brand-new) came over and said, "No, you'll only have to pay $20.00 plus $.72." I said, "No way! It's going to be $20.00 LESS $.72. I've already paid $30.72 and the balance will be UNDER $20.00!" I wasn't yelling, I didn't even raise my voice. I was only speaking firmly. I meant business! The pharmacist (a young woman) said, "Stop yelling at me! You're upsetting me!" I said, "I'm not yelling. I haven't even raised my voice, and I have every right to be upset, not you!" So, I finally got the balance of my prescription and paid $19.28. WHEW!!! The prescription from Hell!!! Thankfully, my doctor gave me an armload of samples of this Rx, Lyrica, plus Cymbalta and Boniva. I won't have to get them from ANY pharmacy for a few months! That made me think... why don't we all ask our doctor's for samples? If, like me, our insurance co-pay is through the roof, or we don't have insurance at all, the doctor's usually have samples to give away. I don't know why I didn't think of that before! I must have at least $800.00 worth of co-pays in that bag she gave me... and this is only from my rheumatologist! I'm going to do the same with my general practitioner, too. Never hurts to ask, right?

yeah ask for samples and see what happens.. when i would get laid off my docs would give me samples to help me last because they were more worried about me not being able to take my meds than a few extra samples etc.. and even though walgreens treated my hubby badly i still go to them because they are open 24 hours and im always forgetting in the middle of the night or something lol

You really had to go through some stuff to get that prescription right. When you do pick up the remainder of your prescription make sure you ask them if they have you on file now. Because if you have to go through this again I don't think you are going to be nice about it. Your medicine, do you take it daily or do you take as needed. If you take it daily why don't you try Medco Mail Order prescription. I can give you a phone number or address for this if you like. I did that when I was working and had insurance and it was a lots cheaper. I don't have any insurance now and I don't know how I am going to get my medication. I went to talk to the supervisor of the doctors office where I attend and she told me that they will work with me on this. I have an appointment for January 21. This has gotten the best of me and I can't keep my mind on anything any more. If I don't get my medicine I am afraid I am going to die.

My mom has trouble with Walmart all the time. The last time she had a prescription for one of their $4 prescriptions. They did not have any they would be in tomorrow. She goes to get them, they are not in. The next day she got a call at 8 in the morning telling her they were there and ready for her. At 1 she went to pick them up and they were not ready. She waited 45 minutes to get her prescription and when they finally handed them to her the bill was $28. According to them they don't carry the one on the list. She was furious. She was totally out of her pills so she paid it and went on, but she said she was not going there for prescriptions ever again.

I have always had that happen too. They never have what I need and then they tell me they will be in the next day and they never are. It is a pain in the butt, especially when I have to drive 25 miles to the nearest walmart to get them.

OK this is what I call Mass Confusion. Please don't strangle anyone hun because you're on my friends list and I can't afford to loose good friends to jail time!!! This is brutal and I can feel your frustration. The right hand doesn't have a clue what the left hand has done at WalMart by the sounds of things and it's anyones' guess as to how intelligent the staff is with the insurance company. Take a few good deep breaths before approaching staff at WalMart and good luck my friend.

i have always had problems with my insurance and walmart. Usually they tell me my insurance has to ok it before I could get my prescription. Which I understood the prescripion was $4,000 for a months supply, but it always turned out to be a mess!! I was so frustrated with them many many times. If I went into details I would be here all day!! At least I only had to deal with it for 9 months while I was pregnant. Now I try not to ever have to go there for anything! I hate walmart pharmacy!

well bless your heart. you know I HATE WALMART PHARMACY!!!!!!! I take a presription for anxiety. I went to pick mine up yesterday and they wanted to charge me 30 when i have only been paying 5. so i asked them why was it a different price every time i came. they told me that they could not explain why it would have been 5 dollars. so i left it there. i have to call my insurance company and figure out what the deal is. i mean i need the meds like now but i cant pay 30 dollars for it . to some people thats pocket change but to me that a pack of pullups, milk, you know? I dont think you should have been charged twice! i am thinking about going through the headache and changing pharmacies. i get to where i hate to go into walmart anyhow.

Insurance can be a real pain, can't it? COBRA is awfully expensive. Look into Aetna, I get insurance for $160 a month, cheaper than any other place I've found. And if I were you, I'd send this info to Walmart and demand some action, this is ridiculous.
