Why do many woman cut their hair short after getting married?

My mother had very long hair in the pictures I've seen of her when she was younger and dating my father but ever since I can remember she has had short hair. I also watch alot of Jon & Kate Plus 8 (TLC) and Kate had really long pretty hair and now she has short hair. Jon was even shown saying he would like her to have the same long hair that he 'met her with' because that was one of things he like most about her. I do feel like even our hair can suit our mood and have been known to chop my hair off when I'm going through a hard time and fed up with men. Thankfully I went to a professional hair salon and got a halle berry cut and I like it alot but......... Men hated it!! (What did you do to your hair???)

Right now I am trying to grow my hair out. After I had my girls I have mostly had short hair when they were little they always pulled on my hair. I think that after I get my hair as long as I can this time I will have it short from than on. It is hard to maintain nice hair when you have a life and kids. I am not say it cannot be done but you have to make it happen! I was thinking I notice a lot of women cut their hair when they get older too. Great discussion and happy mylotting to you.

I've my hair short since high school, but senior year I let it grow out some for pictures. I got pregnant senior year and married a month before I graduated. I did have my short and after the delivery I actually let me hair grow out. My ex husband and I separated I cut my hair off because it was easier for me because I worked, went to school and a mother. I still have my hair short I have tried to let my hair grow out, but it doesn't look right on me.

you said senior year you let it grow out for pictures but now it doesnt look right long, why? I messed my hair up so much trying to do it all myself and now I know I just have to get it done professionally and it took many mess ups to drive that into my brain.

some of my facial features have changed and of course weight can from my three children. I just love short hair. I think if I was to let it grow out that it would be up in a pony tail all of the time. My friends that have seen me with long and short hair tells me that I just look better with short hair.

Often women cut their hair when having children so the children won't grab it and it's just easier to handle, or so they say. That and sometimes they don't have the time to keep up with it. Now, there is an actual history behind the cutting of hair though after marriage. Some religious sections believe a woman should cut her after marriage. That way no one else will think they were beautiful or would want them after they are married. It's a male dominated idea so you may just have to do a little research on your own to prove that idea.

Is that so ? humm , i never knew someone who did that after marriage. Well, all i know is that a lot of women cut thier hair after break up or if they have a problem. It become a scapegoat for some i would say.

I think a lot of times women cut their hair off because they get tired of dealing with it. Especially when you are a mother, you have everyone else's hard to worry about that you really don't have time to worry about yours. Look at Kate, she has 8 children to worry about every day and you know her days are full as it is with all those children. My hair was down to the middle of my back and over the summer I got hot and just decided to chop it all off. The outcome, well, I didn't like it and neither did the men around me either. I have one man who repeatedly tells me all the time, "Your hair isn't growing back fast enough". Your telling me, I can't wait for it to be long again, but then I know once it gets long again I will probably be wishing it was short again.

oh man, i know that feeling. Its like theres some power in long hair and I had a lot of time to think about this when I cut my hair off and ever since then I will not touch it. I do keep it up in a pony tail nearly all the time but thankfully have had my friends tell me that it looks better like that anyway.

Some of my friends also kept their hair long only till marriage, and they wore a shorter haircut after marrying. One of the reasons was to look really at their best for this special occasion. Also they can keep this memory through photos and videos. Since it takes a lot of time and care to look after their long hair, I guess it's much easier to manage short hair.

Do you feel as if men treat you differently? I noticed this right away when I first cut my hair short--this was before I had kids.

Well my boyfriend prefers me with long hair, and everytime I wear it short I guess that he's not that happy. But this time I'm trying to let it grow longer.

My wife has her hair cut every now and then but then I guess they say that having their hair cut is somehow therapeutic for them. My wife when under too much stressed in her job wold just decide to cut her hair and after that she feels relieved for a moment. I guess different women has their reasons for that. I am pretty sure your mother has some reasons too why they decided to cut their hair.

Oh I can relate to that totally, the first couple times I chop my hair off out of stress I didn't give it much thought and it only became noticeable to me when I started dating my bf and while it felt good it slowly became miserable because my bf didnt like it and I just wanted it to grow back because other guys seemed to treat me differently.

i think woman who have long hair make her look more younger than shorter hair. After getting married, they focuse on their husbands and babies. No time to spend in being dressed up. That's why many woman cut their hair short after getting married. But different people have different views on that. I just give you my opinion.

Hmm, wonder if there is any cultures that it is frowned upon (by the family, not men) to cut your hair after getting married

Sorry, men see long hair as hot. It covers flaws better than any makeup. I wish it wasn't true, but it is.

What can I say? Most women experience a beauty letdown when they cut off long hair. Long hair usually makes a woman super hot, and makes a guy forget extra pounds or average features. At least that's what happens for me. I wish it wasn't true, since hair is only an object, but it is a fact nonetheless. Guys are wired to enjoy softness and femininity, and most of us see long hair as special.

Well There is a reason men tipically dont like women to have long hair. God has programed them that way. read 1 cor. 11. I have talked to my husband and he thinks women with short hair arent as pretty. the funny thing is, when i first met him i had a shorter haircut and I believe God sent him my way that night, because shortly after that, I got into church, got the Holy Ghost and realized that my long uncut hair is my glory, and is my covering given to me by God! :D Also for a woman to have long (uncut) hair it is a sigh of submission to your husband and to God, Because the head of a woman is man and the head of man is Christ 1 Cor:1. I hope this helps maybe to explain why men tipically like long hair! :) Have a blessed day!

I too had chopped off my waist length hair to shoulder length, but not immediately after marriage. It was after childbirth when I was losing quite a lot of hair and it was a real bother to take good care of such long hair. With the baby demanding constant attention, I was not doing justice to my tresses and there’s nothing more odd-looking than a pony-tail or bun of real thin hair.

I assume my mom have trave her hair for 3 kids. i guest and she doesn't have the time to touch her hair anymore. Her hands are all over the shink, washing machine and stove. Pretty hair need times and maintenance too, you know. And i think Husbands are angry to watch their wives goes to beauty salon just to cream their hair. happy posting always !! oxox'dian from bali island.

I am a woman. After my marriage I have also cut my hair short. I have enough reason for it. After marriage my responsibilities and business increased a lot. I got into a hectic schedule, and then I got no time to look after and care for my hair. I used to oil, shampoo, and massage my hair, which now I couldn't do due to lack of time. That is why when I combed my hair, a lot of hair fell everyday. Thus I took this decision, and now I am happy that i have cut my hair, and now the hair fall rate has lowered much.

I don't know why but it might be as a manor of saving time. With a family there is not a lot of "me" time and with a shorter cut hair doesn't take as long to style and is easily managed. I've had it all lengths and personally like it shorter myself. I know a lot of guys that prefer long over short, but then again a lot like shorter cuts too.

it is really a very difficust task to maintain the hair after marriage as well as maintainig the family n so women cut their hair so that it is easy to maintain. but then as days go due to tension the hair will become short by itself n so it is useless to cut the hair after marriage. my mom had a very long hair but then it became short as years went by.
