My husband got me a rice cooker for Christmas and I just love it. It makes making rice sooooooo easy. We have not eaten this much rice in years. So do you have one? Have any recipes you would like to share?

I do have a rice cooker, but I have never used it. My parents have one and they cook all kinds of things in it including chicken. I need to dig mine out and try a few dishes in it. i know it would be wonderful to cut time in the kitchen preparing a meal. I am looking forward to the responses you get.

I love mine. I will just put in 2 cups of rice and 2 1/2 cups of water. When it is done cooking I will just toss a little butter in there, and some salt and pepper, give it a good stir and then add like a teaspoon of chili powder, and a tablespoon of Italian seasoning, and it is sooooo good.

i do have another simple recipe for you. try adding some chicken stock too and a dash of salt. you'll have chicken rice and it goes well with steamed chicken. owh yes, i have a few for porrigdes, too. the simple one is to add coconut milk together and a little bit of salt with your rice porridge. when it's cooked, you can serve it with soy sauce or you can just eat own its own. another one is to put 2-3 cloves of garlic and sesame oil and a handful of anchovies and not forgetting, salt. it's creamy, but not as creamy as the one with the coconut milk. and it's up to you wether you want to serve it with soy sauce or not. i hope you like it!

I do not have a rice cooker. I would like one though. We love rice in this family, but I have always hated to cook it. Sometimes it will come out right and sometimes it won't. I think, actually I know that if I had one we would eat more rice in this house.

You should get one. I think it was only like $19.99 and it is so worth it. It also keeps the rice warm without ruining it, so if you have people who eat at different times you don't have to worry about the rice getting cold, or ruining it by re-heating it.

yes, that's true. you should get one. because even a 5-year old can cook rice! because it's THAT easy. some of the rice cooker has the cooking porridge option as well. it'll make your rice warm automatically. and it wouldn't hardened your porridge. and sometimes you can even cook the frozen ready made pizza in the rice cooker. just dash a little bit of oil, pop the pizza in the rice cooker, close the lid for a few minutes letting it to cook. and walla, a pizza is ready to eat. well, with the rice cooker it's easier for you to cook your rice perfectly. a cup of rice means you only need a cup of water roughly, depending of what kind of rice are you cooking (mostly it works). basmathi rice needs more water. all you have to do is close the lid and let it cook by itself. you don't have to worry about your rice getting burnt later. or another way to measure is to let your rice lay the same level (after rinsing the rice with water that is) in the rice cooker pot. slowly pour the water into the pot. put your tip of your middle finger on the upper level of the rice. the water level should be at least until the first line of your finger covering your nails. fuuh. my english is not that good so i have trouble explaining this but i hope you get what i mean ya? hope it does help you shymurl! happy mylotting!

I've never actually owned a rice cooker but I've heard people speak well of them. I always somehow get my rice all wrong when cooking it. I'm thinking sometime in the future, when I get an apartment with my partner, to get a rice cooker to save some time and hassle. Sorry that I don't have any recipes with rice though!

I have a rice cooker and love it, once you put the rice in you turn it on and walk away, nothing else to do, you can not burn the rice and it stays warm. I will never go back to cooking rice in a pot again.

I received a rice cooker as a gift right before I left home for college. I never used it and it sat in the box until after I had finished school! I finally dug it out of my garage recently and gave it to someone that was looking for one. We don't eat that much rice so I guess I'm not aware of what I am missing out on.

I actually got one when I got married, it was a steamer rice cooker, it never worked right so I never used it, and didn't care to have one again, but when my husband bought me this one I decided to give it a shot. We didn't eat that much rice before either, we would have noodles most nights or some kind of potato, but now that we got it we have been eating a lot more rice and not just as a side dish. We have been eating rice as a meal on Sundays since we got it. I throw what ever meat we have left over in there with the rice with some seasoning, it takes me 2 minutes, I close it up and in 20 minutes we have dinner.

No I do not have a rice cooker, and don't want one, when I first married my husband that was a cajun from Louisiana, they have rice with everything, I tried to cook it and even messed it up in the rice cooker. One day his mother said there is nothing to cooking rice here is how I do it. Pour in how much rice you want, cover it with water, enough that it has room to boil, turn the heat down when it starts to boil, let it cook about 20 minutes, or until you pick up a grain and it is tender. Strain it, while running hot water over it in the sink, when all the starch washes off you have rice that you can pick up each grain by its self, no sticking together. It works every time. I think rice cookers make it stuck together like paste. So this is how I do mine and it never fails.

I have no problem making it on the stove, but the rice cooker is just so easy. I can just pour the rice and the water in and just forget about it. I kind of like that. The rice cooks almost perfectly too. But if you are able to make it on the stove and enjoy doing it that is great too.

What a coincidence. I got my wife a rice cooker for Christmas too. I couldnd decide what to get her. I know you are not suppossed to buy women cooking stuff, but my wife loves to cook, and I really had no idea what to get her this year. She tried out the rice cooker and she really loves it.

Oh yes I do have a non stick rice cooker. In my country eating rice is our staple food. My husband and I eat rice one meal a day and that's for lunch. Normally I would cook plain white rice and steam vege or egg using the steamer insert which came with the rice cooker and cook some dishes to go with the rice. You can check out this website about rice cooker meals: http://www.ricecookermeals.com/ I have tried some recipes from there and they give you a free ebook recipe to download. The author of the book is nice and friendly. He will reply if you email him asking him questions or after you have tried one of his recipes and it works, you can email him to encourage him and let him know.

Yes, I have a rice cooker. It does make cooking rice easier. Although, the rice tends to stick to the bottom of the rice cooker I have. I have pretty much stopped using it and gone back to the old way. I didn't like having the rice stick.

We used to have a rice cooker but it's not working anymore. Well, i'm glad. LOL! Cooking rice in it is awesome and saves little of your time but not with the energy consumption. But for emergency uses like when we're out of LPG, it's a good thing you have a rice cooker...so i might get another one someday. Sorry i can't give you some recipes for i only use the cooker for cooking rice.

My ex had a rice cooker that I used all the time. I asked for one for Christmas last year, and my mom got me a steamer instead. Whoops. So I bought my own this past Boxing Day.. a cute little red number. I made jasmine rice with cilantro to accompany my butter chicken the other day and it worked beautifully. I don't know what I would do without it now.

I don't have a rice cooker, but I make a lot of rice. I honestly don't understand what the big deal about cooking rice is. I make it at least a couple of times a week and it always comes out perfect. I don't even have to sit in the kitchen and watch it and it never overflows. Is it just me?

Hi Ladym, I have a rice cooker - I think most Asians have one as well, as we take rice almost everyday. I cook white rice, porridge and other rice dishes (like rice with minced pork, seasoned chicken pieces or sliced sausages) in it.

We used to have rice cookers, but they are not working anymore. I thought of buying a new one, but since it saves electricity using a stove, I just decided not to buy.
