There has been many people on myLot have said that President Obama is not a true african american.Excuse me I need to correct these people, his father was from Kenya. That is the african part. His mother from Hawaii, that's the american part. African + american = african american

I am so sick of hearing about Obama's race. Who the h*ll cares what race and what color of skin he has!!? Is this the only reason why people like him? Sure seems that way to me. ARRRRGGGG!!! I'm not trying to be rude to you or belittle your discussion or anything. I am just stating how I feel.

Oh,I totally agree! Like I said that I did not vote for because of his color.I am white.Like I said I don't care if he is white, black or purple..... Whatever? But,I started this discussion because of what people were saying.I was saying this in defense of our new leader.

Maybe not purple but green skin with big black eyes could be scary for voters :)) I agree you with the skin colour, it's so unnecessary thing.

When people refer to someone as an African American they usually refer to someone who is descended from the Negro slaves brought over from the west coast of AFrica. They do not think of African American if your father came from Africa. They would consider him a Kenyan=American or whatever tribe Obama's father was ====American, just as they would consider someone Irish American. Besides Obama does not have any American Indian blood in him, as most of the descendants of the African slaves do. The same is they do not consider Obama Black because he is half Kenyan African and half white.

Oh well,I guess they should change their way of thinking, huh? I don't care what color he is,I think he is going to be a great president. And because he is black(take a look,he's black) and because of his thinking and attitude he is following Martin Luther King,Jr.'s dream.

I have always thought of the words African American as meaning, that your ancestors are from Africa but you were born in America. He i bi-racial. He has a parent born in Kenya and a mother born in, I believe, Indiana. In general terms, he is biracial. In more specific terms, you can call him African American but his ancestry is a more then just African. I am not sure why blacks are called African American or Afro-American. I am an American. My Ancesters were German, Scottish, Irish. Thank God nobody has to call me a German-Scottish-Irish American. I mean that fact is not obvious but unless we are dealing with ancestry topics, I don't need to say it. Nobody needs to go around saying what they are. If we were born here, we are American. Isn't that enough?

My mom sells Avon I did find out that an ancestor went a-wall and was punished as one of the road gang that made one of the highways that I travel on a lot I have not been able to confirm this yet,but I found some information that one of my ancestors was jailed for having a part in an attempted assasination to President Lincoln!

You made a good point. I never thought of it that way but I also never said he wasn't african american. I have said that he isn't all black though. He's white and black.

I don't care if he was a Irish American, German American, or anything for that matter. In my opinion, he's an American because he was born in Hawaii. I'm glad that he has moved in, and Bush has moved out. May this be a better four years.

Thanks for clarifying this for everyone. He truly is an African American. I do not know why people are questioning it.

Thank you for reading and commenting. Really,I mean look at him,he's black.I know I am not color blind.President Obama calls himself a "mut" because he is mixed. On the news they pointed out in his speech he never mentioned, black, african american or any other race.
