Does your cat(s) go nuts when you buy a new bag of dry cat food? Mine do they just pace and paw all around it even if their dispencer is still full they'll do it for days on end til I open up the new bag. Anyone elses cat do that?

Mine love newly opened dry food also. I think that once it's been opened awhile the air takes away some of the flavor.

That's interesting. Mine love newly opened dry food too, but I've always assumed that it was because I rotate the flavours and they're tired of the one they've had for a week. It's quite possible that the food looses a bit of it's smell or flavour once opened. Just think what it's like when you open a new jar of coffee. I love that smell, but once the air has got to it, it's never quite the same.

My cats do the same. As soon as I bring it into the house they start acting as if they're starving even though their dish is full. When I buy treats they do the same. I swear they can see right through the bag and know there is something for them. I wonder if this is just typical behavior as my moms and sisters cats do the same thing.

We have two cats and whenever I buy a new bag of food, I put it in a big metal tin and they both have to eat some from the tin before I put some in their bowl.

Oh yes! My pets all go crazy over the new bag of food. If their bowls get empty and they get hungry enough they will help them selves by tearing open a corner of the bag. Most of the time we try to get it opened and poured into the food storage container quickly. If they see us do this they have to have a taste of the new food even if they have full bowls. If we mention the grocery store or grocery list our youngest cat bugs us. From time to time we give him a small bit of beef jerkey as a treat. He's figured out the grocery means new food or treats so he makes sure we get him something. Almost like a kid begging "Bring me back some candy pleeeeease."

One of mine does that too. If I don't poass the food to a plastic container immediately, Primo rips off the bag -grr. My other two cats don't really care about dry food. But they go mad in the moment someone opens a can!

Oh how funny. I have 3 cats that all go bonkers when we bring home a new bag of food one of them starts to try and open it, then the others get in on the fun. This happens if we don't put it away right away. They will even tear it open right in front of us. Too funny!

My cat is really bad with this. She always has to run the new bag of cat food to claim it as hers. Then, even if her dish is full, she has to rub on it until she knocks it over. Then she'll try pawing at it and sometimes actually rips the bag open, just for a taste of the new food. I've had to start putting the bag in a room that isn't open to her so she can't rip the bag open and get food all over the floor. I hate cleaning it up because she leaves little food trails.

I have to hide new bags of dry food from my cays (I have 2) as they tag team it until the side is ripped open. I have to watch them with the dry dog food as they'll turn it over & rake it out onto the floor. When my guys start ignoring their dry food, I pick up a hand full & rub it together. That seems to release the smell again & they eat it like it is new.

Of course! That's part of what makes cats such delightful pets. I just love to watch them play. We are breeders and I love to watch my babies.
