Yesterday, my DH and I decided to keep our son home from school for the Inauguration and today we were told by the school that his absence would be considered UNEXCUSED!!! My son has PERFECT ATTENDANCE and is in the top of his 1st grade class and has NEVER been in any trouble. This truly angers me! I called the district today and got the run around and sent to voice mails. ANy advice on how to handle this? Thanks :)

I don't know where you are but I do know that in both Maryland and Florida, school children were able to watch the inauguration in class. If your son's classroom doesn't have a television I could understand your desire to allow him to watch history in the making but, if it does, you probably should have sent him to school. At any rate, he's only in the first grade and he's not going to have perfect attendence for the next 11 years so my recommendation would be to just let it go. You're going to be dealing with the teachers, staff and this school district for several years (unless you move) so you don't want to create a bad reputation over this...for yourself and for your son.
