Have you ever had Pink-eye (Conjunctivitis)?

My boyfriend just sent me a text message from work telling me he thinks the cold has now progressed to Pink-Eye. He was having trouble with his eye all day yesterday.. it was red and inflamed and itchy with discharge, and now apparently one of his coworkers has told him he thinks that's what it is. I've never had Pink-Eye (nor do I want to) so I'm wondering if anyone has ever had it and knows how to prevent the spread of it, and what sort of home remedies we can try tonight (since the doctor will be closed when he gets home) to keep the pain and discomfort down?

Pink eye is very contagious. He needs to see eye doctor as soon as possible . Call Eye doctor and see if he has late hours . My eye docor stays open till 8 on some nights or if notcarry hi to ER after work .The best way not to catch it is constantly wash your hands and don't rub your face . Bt he really needs to see an eye doctor so it doesn't cause permanent damage. Cheryl

I have had pink eye and my son has had it. It is real contagious. Keep everything that is commonly touched bleached or cleaned. Make sure everyone in the household is constantly washing hands. Try to get the person who has pink eye to keep his hands away from his face especially his eyes. There is stuff you can buy over the counter at walmart for pink eye. Check it out.

Just go to the pharmacy and buy some POLYSPORIN ANTIBIOTIC EYE/EAR DROPS. Or ask the pharmacist for something similar. It will begin to work immediately. You put a couple of drops in your eye (may as well do both as it will likely spread anyway), several times a day. Pinkeye is very contagious and spreads quickly and easily.

Pink eye is very contagious. Wash your hands a lot! Don't touch your eyes after touching something (like a drinking glass for instance) after HE has touched. Tell him to wash his hands frequently too. If it is pink eye, his eye will feel VERY scratchy (like he's got sand in it). He will need an antibiotic drop from his doctor. I think a warm washcloth will help it to feel a bit better.

I have had it before. My daughter just had it. It is very contingous. I normally wear shades all day and I also sleep in them. Mines gets better. This is also what my daughter did. I let her wear shades in the house and while she slept and it went away. I think it might have something to do with the light in your eyes. If it is real bad he might has to go to the doctor get medicine to clear it up. This happens to me when I rub my eyes with my fingers without washing them first.

I had pink-eye and it never bothered me at all. I would go to WebMD and see some of the treatments that might help your boyfriend. I think you will get better answers there.

Well, I have never had Conjunctivitis, and joining ur brigade, I don't want to experience it either. Ask your boyfriend try not to touch his eye. He can spread infection to his other eye or to someone else. If he does touch it, ask him to wash his hands well. Ask him to use his own flannel, towels, pillows and bed linen. Don't send children or babies with conjunctivitis to preschool if the eye is weeping. To prevent reinfection, wash their hands often. And to maintain his looks, ask him to wear a goggle :)!

My husband had it awhile ago (last month I think). To keep it from spreading he should try and not touch it. That isn't easy to do if it is really itchy. He should also wash his hands a lot with a separate bar of soap (or soap dispenser) and his own towel. The shower should also be washed down after he uses it. You should also make sure that he uses his own pillows and that no one else uses them. As for treatments...the only thing I know that works is an antibacterial eye drop that the doctor prescribes. To help with discomfort he can take a hot wet wash cloth and rest it on his eye. He should not use this to rub it and he should be the only one to touch it, but it does help bring relief. The pharmacist recommended it to my husband and also had him do it before he put drops in it. He should stay home from work and go to the doctor though. The doctor had my husband stay home 2 days and would have preferred a 3rd.

I had it when I was a child and stayed away from school for a long time. What I remember was just to put serum on it nothing more. But the best is to talk to a doctor about it.

Hi, yes I have had conjunctivitis. Only way is to be sure to wash hands and don't rub the eyes and even doing those things are not a sure thing. A opthomologist can write a prescrpition but the person infected has to make an appointment and be diagnosed. It is very contagious so the infected person should be doing it right away.I have never heard of any home remedies, get right on a diagnosis by a doctor.

man conjuctivitis sucks, though I never knew it was also called as pink-eye because the eye is no where near pink...its bloody red. Its irritating watery and itchy. It is one disease that disgusts me. Adding to the problem is that it is highly transferable infection. If you look at the bright side it is one great disease you can attack your enemies with. But it is really bad, I have experienced it and I had to miss college. I ended up wearing sunglasses to cover my eyes. It was raw and yuck to watch!

I had pink eye for few days. Doctor has prescribed me some drops but I didn't get any results, then my friend's grandma told me to try honey. you just have to mix the honey and vinegar in warm water and put a drop directly into the infected eyes several times a day. It really worked for me. http://www.eyehealthguide.net/pink-eye-home-remedies.html

Pink eye is very contagious. You and he needs to wash their hands after dealing with the eye. The only thing that can make this better that I know of is going to the doctors and get antibiotics. He definitely needs to go to the doctors. I have had pink eye twice in my life awhile back and it is no fun.

Is that the same with sore-eyes? Well, he shouldn't touch it, so that it won't be infected. My dad would always say use Benadryl Eye Drops for sore-eyes. Maybe it'll work on that too?

I have had it many many times and I can never seem to avoid catching it no matter what I do. They sell some medicine for pink eye at several pharmacies that works great to relieve the pain and itching. Just make sure to tell him to wash his hands very good and to avoid touching or rubbing the area around the eye as this will cause it to spread to the other eye and can get other people infected with it as well. It usually takes me a few days before my eye starts to feel better.

normally there is not much we can do to prevent it but using sun glasses or plain glass might help. if already infected giving rest to the eyes is the best treatment. using soothing eye drops and keeping wet cotton on the eyes also helps.
