I remember my non asian friend being amazed at me eating rice without pouring soy sauce all over my white rice. If you are a non Asian, can you eat your rice without pouring soy sauce on it? Did you know it's normal for Asians to not pour soy sauce on their rice? They eat it plain white.

I have never thought of that before, but I gues I knew it sort of. I roomed with a gal from China in college, watched her cook, and watched what foods she bought for her meals. I guess I never paid attention, but I don't think she added soy sauce to her rice. But I think she did add it to her stirfrys that she put onto rice. She did white rice every meal, long grain. Her father was a rice merchant in China.

I don't think its wrong. It is just a misconception about Asian being so attached to soy sauce and they put it in everything they eat. It is perfectly okay to not put soy sauce on your rice.

I dont like soy sauce on rice. The reason is because plain rice is pretty good. There are others sauces besides soy sauce thats good on white rice. Soy sauce just makes it more saltier. Fried rice is pan fried with soy sauce, it taste better this way, if you just put soy sauce on rice, it just taste a little too...I dont know.. not good. Its not all about rice you can eat it with dishes like pork, beef, and shrimp, meat or vegetables. Anything is good.
