I've had Bigguy for over a year now and anyone who might remember me will probably remember that when I got him he was basically ferral. I treat him great and show him all the love and attention I can. On the few occasions that he comes near me to be patted when I put my hand down to scratch his ears he still cowers. He still spends the majority of the day under my bed only to come out to use his box or to eat. When I took him in it was for company after my Mom passed but he has been far from company. I love the little shi* and after a year I'm still hoping he'll come around. Do you think that will ever happen?

You gotta give the little guy sometime. He is probably still weary about being in a new environment. LIke someone before me said he will come around but on his own terms.

While I do not have a feral cat, I did adopt one about 1 year ago. I went through a program called SAFE. We adopted him as a very young kitten, however from about his second or third day home we have had problems with him. It took til then to get him out from behind the fridge. Then he immediately was attacking my feet and legs. Being as he was a kitten I thought it was a game for him and he would stop. The exact opposite has happened. He now randomly attacks me and the children. Therefore we are looking at possibly returning him to the program. I believe that cats usually can grow to truly be very good company and to be affectionate. All of my others have. including the ones I found as strays. Unfortunately he is currently our only cat. We had to give the others to friends when we moved a couple of years ago.

Since he's your only cat, he might come a bit further. I had one that did finally get onto the bed and let himself be pet, but always on his terms. He was a funny little guy, a "Bombay" type, and they are super affectionate and so I think that was part of it. I now have 3 ferals at the moment, 1 that begs for food, but you can't touch; 1 that watchs and you can pet, but only like she's tollerating it, and would rather you stopped; and 1 you barely see, but when he wants pets, you'd better hand them out!
