How much clutter so you accumulate in your house?

Clutter is a major stumbling block to someone who desires a clean organized home but lacks the knowledge of how to do it. Once someone allows their house to get too cluttered, real cleaning like dusting and vacuuming takes a back seat. You will have to spend so much time de-cluttering before the real cleaning, that by the time you get around to cleaning the counter you just de-cluttered, you are too tired to keep cleaning or there’s no more time to finish cleaning everything else. I like to keep my house clutter free right from start. Just do not let the clutter get in thne there will be no need to declutter. Do you have a lot of clutter in your house? What do you do about it?

I accumulate a lot! I have so much stuff that I could give away or throw away. But I just can't get rid of it. Some stuff I just don't get around to dispose of, and some things I just don't want to let go, I have a room in the back of my apartment that's full of stuff I don't use but can't get rid of, like I have a spare bed, a kitchen table, 2 mattresses, some clothes, but every time I go there, I be like I might needed some day, so it's just sitting there.

Arggh we usually have a lot of clutter in the house because we have a toddler here. She just keeps on pulling out something from her toy box. Getting some crayons and coloring books, pulling out notebooks and papers, even gets some kitchen utensils like spoons. I myself am a clutter-er especially when I'm too tired. I just place my bag in the sofa then sometimes my little baby girl would look into it and get something from inside it. You're right, it makes me feel lazy about cleaning after de-cluttering. My husband most of the time fixes it because he's the one who is staying at home.

I've often envied houses where there is so much white space. My room is pink and white yet when you look at it, it's mostly cluttered! I have tried several times to buy boxes and make everything more organized. But I have a tendency to NOT return things to the box after I use them because I'm too lazy to return it and then take it out all over again. So most of the things I need and use are out in the open while the things that I used to use but don't presently need are also out in the open waiting to be kept in boxes. :( I don't do much about my disorderly room anymore I just live with it. At least I know where everything is.

I have way to much clutter in my house. We shop at flea markets and garage sales. So whenever we see a good deal we buy it and the clutter sure adds up. So what I had to do is get plenty of shelves to store all the nick knacks I buy and when I can't fit anymore on the shelves I pick an item to donate or sell. We also accumulate a lot of clothes these I go through once a year and donate to a local charity.

I actually do have a lot of clutter in my house LOL I'm a major packrat which drives my husband insane (he's just this side of Adrian Monkish when it comes to neatness LOL)...BUT I LIKE IT..my house is never dirty, its just full of all sorts of stuff...and I love my stuff...I could give up my stuff in a heartbeat if I needed to mind you but since i dont need to I enjoy it...It all stems back to when I did live on the streets and had nothing but the clothes on my back ya know...My stuff is comforting and my house being so "busy" with stuff (between myself and my two teen kids believe me its very "busy with stuff" LOL) is comforting because its a house thats actually "lived in" and its a house where kids are and are always welcome...

I am like you - I really do not like clutter at all. I do not like having duplicate items or an additional appliance to do something that another appliance or gadget can also do. However, my poor husband is very much a pat rack. IT can be a bone of contention for me.

I have always been one that couldn't stand clutter. So, things have a place to go and that's where I keep them. Then like you say, cleaning is so much easier and less time consuming. The only place that is not clutter free is my b/f's computer desk/area.....and it drives me crazy! lol But I do have to give him a little time to get it less cluttered. He just retired so a lot of it is files that he has to go through and either trash or shread. So for now, I just try not to look! LOL

I admit, I am a pack rat. There is so much clutter in my apartment that sometimes I walk into stuff or trip on stuff because there is nowhere to put it all! I did finally manage to get up the nerve to pack up a bunch of stuff and send it to charity but there is still much work to do!

Hi Mercuryman, I haven't that much clutter the most I have is my sons toys and he just won't part with some of them yet but I do clear out all the time. Last week for example I bought new socks and underwear so before putting into the drawer I cleared all the old ones out and put into recyling. I shred paperwork once read if it doesn't need filing. The most clutter I have is my books but I love them and to me they are essetntial items rather than clutter. Huggles. Ellie :D

We have a little to many nick nacks around the house. It's a real pain to dust. I try to get rid of some stuff here and there but my honey likes all the little nick nacks. I should make him dust everything.

Yes. i have so much clutter in my house as I have my little baby boy to care of and most of the clutters are because of him playing with his toys and ends up in pile. but now I try to sort them out them moment I see them and not let them stand and wait for me to have time. It is true that once your finished removing the clutters you will be too tired to do the real cleaning up. But I guess youjust have to do what you have to do. I still have some cleaning up to do myself that's why I have to end this response soon. Wish me luck in de cluttering and I wish you luck too. Happy de-cluttering to both of us!

Well I would have to say that my husband is the king of clutter. It sometimes drives me nuts. We go to alot of auctions and I swear he buys everthing and anything. Not only is my house cluttered we also have vehicles and trailers full of his stuff. He has to put it in the cars and trailers because we need enough room in the house to live. He even collects the cars and trailers to keep the stuff in. We have approximately 17 computers here because he feels that he needs them. It usually takes me about half a day to clean my living room. So I go nuts and rant and rave until he gets rid of some of the stuff.

Far too much...lol. Lately I've been organizing everything and that seems to be getting rid of a lot of the clutter that I have accumulated over the last few years. It's difficult being a pack-rat and throwing stuff away, but there is a point where you just can't take it anymore!! So... I've been going through everything I have and selling it on ebay. If it's something I really like then I keep it, but if it's something I'm keeping for sentimental reasons, I have a test for it. If I pick it up and have a memory come back, I keep it. If I get nothing when I pick it up, I take a picture of it and get rid of it. That way I at least have some sort of a record for my past. But there's no sense in keeping something that no longer even has a memory attached to it.

We do have a lot of clutter and it drives me crazy! I think part of our problem is that we don't have enough room right now for our stuff, so it's very hard to keep the place neat. Our family is in a townhouse right now and we are currently looking to buy a bigger place. My hope is that once we move into a bigger house everything will seem less cluttered because we'll actually have space to put everything away. We have very little storage space right now, so we have to move 3 things just to dig 1 thing out! We have to be very careful to always put things away right away and try to not to start leaving things out when we're not using them because we very quickly have a big mess on our hands. Maybe it's just wishful thinking to think that things will be better when we have more space, but I really do hope so! I also do think though that we save more things that we need to. My husband and I are each packrats in different ways, so between the two of us, we probably hold onto a lot of things that we don't need! Maybe the fact that we're hoping to move this year should be our movitation to start getting rid of things. We don't want to pay movers to move our junk!
