My sister texted me and told me that she is getting this message every time she will open her laptop " windows script host cannot find script file C:\windows\auto vbs" I do know what is that I tried to research but wanted to hear from those who experience this problem...what is the best remedy? is this a virus? She has her anti virus... I am lost.... any expert here! Thanks in advance!

Tell her to run a virus scan. If that does not work, then tell her to download a different anti virus. I find that AVG does not catch as many viruses or trojans as Avira Antivir, and they give a notification, a pop up that asks if you want to delete, quarentine, etc. and you check the one you want. If that does not work, she may have to back up her documents and format the hard drive.

if your sis has a auto backup from windows itself she can restore it in the last session she made. formatting the system is the last resort.

I think that something is wrong with software. She needs to call for a qualified computer engineer, who is aware about software. I do not have much idea, therefore, cannot help you much in this case.

You can disable it in msconfig. And just a tip, it's better if you turn-off auto play from any media such as CDs and flashdrives, most viruses are spreading through autoplay. That's why when you insert your virus-infected flashdrive to a PC, that PC will also be infected. That's why you should turn off autoplay.

Hello checapricorn, Oh, I am not an IT person! I don't even know how to help you or your sister. I am sorry for that but I do believe you already got the answer as this discussion was created like two weeks ago. As for me, if anything about computer, I will just ask my husband to handle it. If I do, things will get worse...

i think the virus or something automatically deleted the vbs script or any other files that windows needed to reboot the os system. if she can access to safe mode she can do so.

I've never heard of that one before. I have a similar message on my laptop a while back and had to have my whole system rebooted. Seems somehow something got erased from my computer that was essential for the laptop to work. Hope she gets it fixed!

This is a virus that copied his self to all drives except the floppy drive. Its a vbscriptworm.

Indien de worm wordt uitgevoerd, creeert de worm de volgende bestanden: • %Windir%\achitasin.dll.vbs • %SystemDrive%\achi.htm Daarna creëert de worm de volgende registeringang zodat de worm telkens start wanneer Windows wordt opgestart: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\"achitasin" = "%Windir%\achitasin.dll.vbs" De worm creëert tevens de volgende registersleutel: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\"Window Title" = "Hacked by Achitasin & ???? ???" The worm changes the following registryentrance: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\"Start Page" = "C:\achi.htm" The worm copies himself as the following file to all stations except the floppy: %DriveLetter%\achitasin.dll.vbs At the end following file will be created so the worm will be active everytime the drive is used: %DriveLetter%\autorun.in
