I just had to share this

I was just sitting here, doing computery things and I heard, what sounded like, water running into more water. I thought Ive got a leak or the taps running and shouldnt be. I looked around and I have all four dogs in here and one of the cats, so I went toward the sound and there was my other cat (not Zippy, the girl cat) crouched over the toilet bowl taking a leak. How cool is that???? If I can get the other one to do the same, I'll save a fortune in cat litter!! It does mean that I will have to leave to loo seat up though (which I hate). Anyone else ever had a cat the used the toilet?

My mother's cat would do that, but ONLY when she was having urinary tract troubles

Only if its bad enough to see blood in it. You might want to go, because, if you can catch it before its that bad, you can save an even greater expense later.... Good luck with your kitty

Can one tell if they have a problem from the colour of the urine, it was in the pan you see and it looked normal. Of course Ive flushed it now, so I cant look again. Anyway, maybe a quick trip to the vet might be in order (oh bummer theres another expense!)

Hi Ritz100, How wonderful, hehehe, you must take a picture next time and download it for us, that would be fun, but how clever, if only all cats do that it would save a lot of money on cats litter. I just hope the cat doesen't fall in though. Love and hugs. Tamara

Sorry about the VERY long delay in responding, but anyway, my other cat has started doing the same, its brilliant. I did try to take a pic but the flash made him slip, he almost fell in, but it doesnt seem to have put him off.

Hey ritz! That is really cool! I wish my cats would learn to use the toilet to! Not a chance! The only thing they like to do is drink from it and I don't want them doing that! So I keep the lid down so they can't get in there to play with the water or to drink it! That is really something that your cat just did that on his own! What a smart kitty!

Hi opal, long time. Ye I was so pleased, and now they are both doing it. My big challenge now would be to get the dogs to do the same, some hope. Thanks for responding, nice to hear from you.

i have heard of that happening and i think thats amazing i dont have kids but i would bet that parents wish they could potty train their kids as easy as some pet owners do .

If they left the cats and the kids together maybe the cats could teach the kids a thing or too. LOL

thats so cool! I wish my cat would do that. Unfortunatly when you flush the toilet in my house my cat watches the water swirl...Its rather weird. My other cat only drinks out of a glass or a dripping tap. Its awesome because I don't have to buy a water dish for her.

Im really sorry I didnt see this response before, but had to comment now coz the cat that pees in the toilet bowl also drinks from the tap. I have an atrium (no real garden or yard) that has a sink and shes always sitting there with her little tongue under the water outlet. Its lovely.

Hello Ritz. It is gorgeous of that cat of yours able to use the toilet. Yeah, if all the other pets of yours could do the same as her, it would be more pleasant. This is really a cute cat of yours. Take care.

I havent but it would be really cool to have a cat do that. I have had plenty of cats that are interested in the toliet but so far none have tried to go to the bathroom on it. it would be cool if you could get a toliet trained cat to sort of model for the oteher cat.

I remember seeing somewhere that you can buy this tray thing that sits over the toilet bowl and you put litter in it. Its supposed to train them, sort of makes sense I think. Now getting one to model for the other, well I think superglue would have to be part of the package lol. (sorry im not a cruel person, it just seemed amusing)

That's strangely odd, but then again cats are strange creatures. If only you could train your other cat to do the same, and maybe even start a cat peeing in toilet training business, you'd make a fortune, i'm sure.

I wish I could do that, not sure that I trained her though. Funny, I remember seeing cat paw prints on the toilet seat and just assumed they were drinking from the bowl (thats why I like the lid down) but hey, lifes full of surprises!

Oh hey, that's really awesome.^_^ My cat does his business in the comfort room but not exactly in the toilet. The bathroom in our old house wasnt really that 'furnished' shall we say, so the drain doesnt really have a cover. Well, I used to take my cat with me when Im in the bathroom especially when Im taking a bath.LOL But I dont know, he just picked up the scent in the drain I guess. That whenever he needs to do his business, he's actually trying his hardest to shoot it through the whole. His aim isnt that great but its not a problem, we just pour water through it and 'flush' it through the drain.

LOL, Ye I can picture the cat falling in the pan. She has a tray actually, which I keep in the bath, and as far as I know she has used this until now. Hopefully she would go back to that if she did fall in LOL

I've never heard of a cat using a toliet before! Did you somehow like encourage it to use it or like train it without even relizing it because I have cats and none of them are that smart to use a toliet. Although my one cat likes to drink the toliet water so we had to shut the bathroom doors so she cant go in there she is only allowed to drink out of her water bowl not the disguisting toliet water.
