When should they reveal who Red John is?

I was reading some random forums online and it seems that the creators/writers of The Mentalist won't be revealing who Red John is until the end of the SERIES!Do you think that's a good idea? I personally don't because it means we could end up waiting for years to find out. It could also mean we'll never know, if the show were to get canceled by the network. Why not let us know after a season or two, and move on to something else? I don't think Red John is critical to the show, so it makes no sense in waiting until the show's series is over. Perhaps revealing Red John's identity in Season 1 is too soon, but surely Season 2 or 3 is a long enough wait for them?I like The Mentalist, but I don't think they should keep us waiting for an indefinite amount of time. Please share your thoughts:)
