I swear i don't know how i get so much stuff but i've decided its time to get rid of some. I'm going to start in the basement - tomorrow I'm going to go to town get some boxes and start sorting. Hopefully after i finish I'll have some tidier cupboards and closets and not as many clothes that don't fit. Have you ever gone through your things and decluttered, gotten rid of things? Are you a pack rat? Is someone in your family a pack rat? February is buy nothing other than groceries and gas month for me I've decided.

I'm the declutter and my husband is the pack rat! Drives me nuts at times. I also had my daughter move out with my grandbaby and she took some but left lots here in her pigsty. I'm going thru it and trashing the junk, giving some away, saving for my moms yard sale and giving to the Salvation Army. I ran out of boxes thou. I'm gonna ask hubby tonight to see if he can get any while doing errands, its cold here so I decided I wasn't going! lol I have to say thou he puts up with all the books I have stacked waiting to read so I don't complain to much!

Sounds like my kids, I keep giving them their things that I keep finding, my one daughter seems to think we are storage unit! Told her I cant keep each kids stuff. If we did that I would be overloaded as we had 7 kids. Still got 2 at home and are raising one of our granddaughters too. Two are teens and one loves books and draws and paints so it is time to give her more room in my opinion! So now I just drop the stuff off and say here ya go! LOL! With the yard sale, I thought twice about keeping some of the stuff but my mom wants a BIG YARD SALE this time! Whatever doesn't sell is going straight to the Salvation Army this time!

I took a whole bunch of mugs and glass ware that used to be my grandmas (we kept the precious special bits we wanted) in after the last yard sale i had. I've had people asking me already this year if i intend to have another one.

I have a garage sale every spring. Was tempted to save the clothing i took out of my closet today for that but i dont want to store it for another few months. My mom keeps trying to get my sisters to take all their old things to their houses. She says she's gotten msost of my things over to my house now unless its things my youngest sister (11 yrs old so not moved out) is using.

I'm doing some declutting this weekend, too! We just moved in another teen last week, and she's going to be sharing a room with my step-daughter. As a result, we've had to reduce a lot of the things in her room quite a bit - stuff that she's out-grown, broke, or isn't interested in anymore. I didn't realize how much had piled up until I started re-arranging things. LOL So, this has prompted me to finish decluttering the rest of the bedrooms while I'm at it.

i have been trying to take saturdays and do some serious cleaning in my house. each saturday we pick a room and go from there. i dont mind staying in during the winter, so i want to get the house all clean so when the warmer weather comes, we can spend our days outside!

Summer time is so unappealing to de-clutter...winter i have less to do outside so more to do inside. Good luck with your decluttering.

Hey saundyl! Yes I most definitely was a pack rat! When my boyfriend moved in last year he needed some room in the closets and he finally got me to clean out everything and throw alot of things out finally. I have lived in my apartment for over 28 years and have collected way too much stuff! So I just started throwing things out and now I don't even know what I had anymore! It kind of felt good, but every now and then I am looking for something that I know I threw out that I am sorry that I did.

After i get past the hard part of deciding what to toss....when i'm all done its soooo satisfying to look at a tidy emptyish cupboard. I've gotta stop adding things though- maybe make a rule of if something new comes in somethign old has to go.

I am a big time pack rat. I hold on to the weirdest stuff for years and years because I think someone might need it again at some point. It was actually one of my New Years resolutions to stop being such a pack rat. I started cleaning out our spare bedroom with no mercy, throwing away or donating pretty much anything that hasn't been used in the last year. Next is the kitchen. My sister in law is moving out of her parent's house so we can give her everything we don't use.

Thats handy to have someone that might need the things. I hate throwing things away i'd rather donate them ir give them away. My dad and my grandma are/were major packrats. My dad has a couple spare buildings on the farm for "stuff". My grandma did too and her basement was stuffed full of junk when she passed away it took us AGES to get rid of everything (ACTUALLY 8 YEARS TO BE EXACT) I sold the last of it when dad wasnt home last spring in a garage sale.

I was thinking the sam thing. Great minds think alike =) But to answer your question, I am a terrible pack rat. I keep every little thing. I graduated college in 2005 and until this summer had every homework assignment, book, paper, blah blah...It was rediculous! I moved into a new apartment almost 2 years ago and we still have boxes sitting around to unpack. The main problem was that we went from a 3 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apartment. I can't decide...because of another post I was kinda wanting to see if I could possibly get 100 posts done in a single day, but now I'm thinking that organizing would be a better use of my time. After all, I have a ton of baby clothes I could sell...just gotta dig them out! That alone would make me more money than mylotting 24 hours straight. ha ha. Happy cleaning! And pray I keep the motivation to do it, cause Lord knows it needs it BAD!!

I think if it hadn't been for having to clean my grandma's house after she passed on after being a packrat for 70someyears...i would be a terrible pack rat. Good luck with you organizing. I'm considering letting the one room in my house out to an intern so i need to clear it out and find homes for things.
