Do you know the ABCs of feeding the sick elderly?

The following might be helpful for feeding the sick elderly: - Have him in sitting or leaning position, - Soft pasty food, in small mouthfuls, one more not until the previous is swallowed. - not too much for each meal, maybe more times, and inbetween some cookies, - ask him concentrate, no speaking, no divertion - esp careful about feeding water, and solid food. Actually, the healthy elderly need also to take care to avoid getting stuck or other incidents.

It is also important to be patient and encouraging, and to offer small amounts of liquid after every bit or two. Another thing that you should know is that after eating, the person should remain in an upright position of at least 45 degrees to avoid aspiration.
