Canada

A Dine Safe Program? This is something new coming to my community and I think it is great! Do you have this where you live or have you seen signs posted similar to these? Do you think it is a good idea? Would you eat at a place with a yellow sign or one that used to have a red sign but they have fixed it up and it is re-opened under the same management? What are your thoughts on a program like this? Here's to safe dining When we can afford it ~Heavens~

I have never heard of this before either until I saw postings that it is coming and got a pamphlet on it to read about it! Basically what will happen is the establishment will be government inspected and then the results of the inspection will have to be posted at the front door for all to see! I think it is great! ~Heavens~

Wow, I've never heard of that! We don't have anything like that in our area, but it sounds like a really good idea. I think I would probably hesitate a little bit before eating at a yellow signed restaurant, but I might still eat there. If a place was closed and opened back up under the same management, I would probably not want to eat there. If it was opened under different management though, then I don't think I'd mind trying it out.

I agree I'd be really hesitant to eat at a place that re-opened under the same management...How do I know that they changed their practices!?!? I wouldn't know until they were re-inspected! I like the idea of this program also...I'll be glad when the results are posted as all I am seeing now is that it is coming! ~Heavens~

I have not heard of the program. I would be hesitant to eat at a place with a yellow sign. But if they had red and were able to reopen and pass inspection then I would not have a problem eating there. In some ways I think this is a good idea, so the public can know the inspection results. Then again if your enemy is the inspector this might be abused.

The inspectors are government employees so that should not be a factor but I can see your point how it could harm a restaurants business but I think it is incentive to run by ministry standards! I have also seen these posted at Grocery stores that the Dine Safe Program is coming so I have a feeling it is going to include them too and each store will also have to post the inspection results! ~Heavens~

The Dine Safe program has been in our area for some time now. And I agree--I think it is great! Right around the time the program came into effect, our local newspaper also did a huge, multi-issue expose on local restaurants and some of the health violations that could be found. Some of the restaurants were actually named in the article and needless to say it caused a lot of controversy. And the violations they mentioned...yeeeech! It was enought to make you think twice about dining out altogether. And it was wasn't just diners or local dives that got mentioned either--many very popular restaurants, including some "fine dining" places. A couple of restaurants even got shut down. So, yes, now that I know what could happen, I am very very grateful to have a way of being certain that the health inspectors have given their OK to a restaurant (or any place that handles food for that matter) before I spend my hard-earned money there. I don't enjoy having my chicken with a side of salmonella, thank you.

Thanks so much Wordplay for your well wrote response here Sorry I am late in getting back to you but I do agree with you! I am thankful that this is coming to my community it will bring a lot into the light I think and cause owners to be diligent in their proper practices! I have noticed these signs declaring that Dine Safe Is coming on Grocery Stores as well...I think the outcome will be interesting for sure! ~Heavens~
