One of my online friends told me that gambling was never "bad", and "someone must have told you that it was bad", which is true, as my parents and teachers have often mentioned gambling was bad and i had always felt it was true. He further asked "if you have never gambled in a casino, how will you know its bad or good? We only gamble with the money we can spare, and the thrill is like nothing else." I have great respect for this friend of mine, as he's both older than me and also very successful in his life as a CEO. But i cant shake off the fact that gambling cant be good - perhaps it was the cartoons i used to see as a kid, or what i heard of people becong bankrupt in old englis storybooks. What is the truth about gambling?

Gambling is bad for other people. But for me gambling is a way to spend time if you don't have anything to do. But you must have limitations. If you think you are not lucky then stop gambling then try again some other day. I gamble only for small amount of money only I don't gamble in large bets.

Thanks for the advice. Gambling in moderation seems okay and fun. But i'll pass with it. Once i get addicted to something, it'll take years to throw it off. Thanks for your time. Happy mylotting.

Honestly, it's not a good "investment" to make - just because you have a very small chance of actually winning - but if that's what he wants to do with his money and his time, then more power to him, right? I personally enjoy gambling (or going to the casino and playing the penny slots) a few times a year with friends. It can be fun and exciting - although I would only suggest doing it in moderation. I feel like it's "good" as a form of entertainment (and not a way to make ends meet), and I think it's one of those things that are good in MODERATION, but clearly, you don't want to be addicted.

Thank you very much for the explaination. I can see what he means now. Getting addicted would be a bad turn out for gambling. Thanks again. Happy mylotting.

I don't really think there is a 'truth' about gambling. It's more like, circumstance or perspective. If someone is financially in trouble and can barely afford to pay their bills, gambling at that time with the money they do have, would be considered bad. Or rather, not a very wise decision. If a person becomes addicted to gambling to the point of obsession, it can impact their life very heavily in a negative way. Which results in a 'bad' outcome. Although there are no secure, good results in gambling, it isn't evil in itself. People can abuse it just like any other activity. Too much of anything can be bad, especially when concerning the spending of money and chance. The key is knowing when to stop, if you're of legal age gambling shouldn't be a problem, as long as you can control yourself. However, if you know you won't be able to, or have no desire to gamble in the first place, then don't bother. Don't get me wrong, gambling can be fun in moderation, and you may even win something every now and then. But...it might be wiser to save the extra money that you could potentially lose for a rainy day. 8D

Your way of interpreting the 'truth' is easy to understand. Obsession and enjoying gambling seems to be two different things. I had never wanted to gamble, so i'll stick to that. Happy mylotting and thank you for your time.
