which do you put in the cup first - milk or tea?

I drink a lot of tea, and always put milk and sugar in first, because there is less likelihood of it splashing out of the mug - which can happen when adding the milk and sugar afterwards. Maybe that's just because I'm clumsy. How about you?

Do you mean you put water in the cup then add the rest?

I don't have milk in my tea When making it for other people I put the sugar in first, then the hot water then lastly the milk! When making coffee I put the milk in first. A friend of mine reckons it burns the coffee putting the milk in last! I'm not convinced I think they are just picky

If you put the milk in first when making coffee, don't you have trouble dissolving the coffee? Or is it just the instant coffee I use that does that?

I don't drink tea - it's coffee for me. The milk goes in it last. My husband is the tea drinker and we make a pot of tea for him - he has 2 cups with every meal. He doesn't sweeten it but the milk goes in the cup first. He loves his tea but it has to be just right or he will complain.

I can completely understand that. I'm so disappointed when it isn't just right!

I'm coffee drinker and we use instant coffee all the time. I always put sugar, coffee and milk first, before the hot water and I guess I do that way also because like you have said, to avoid or lessen the splashing of it, lol.

When I drink coffee, I put coffee and sugar in first, then water, then stir to dissolve, then add milk, then stir. But I don't put so much water in, so there's less chance of splashing!

This is a unique discussion and if you hadnt ask I wouldnt have realised that I did have a method when I was making tea and that is to put in the tea first and then the milk or sugar.I also wouldnt have realised that there was a better technique to it and that is putting the sweeteners first

It's odd isn't it - we just do things automatically, and don't really think about it until somebody points it out.

I put tea first and then the milk, and a big portion of milk, to make the taste better. For milky tea, I guess it does not matter if i put milk first. But in another case, the order makes great difference. When we mix hot and cold water in a basin, which would you pour first, especially when the baby is aside? In this case, we must pour cold water first and then add the hot water, so as to avoid any clumsy to turn over the basin, or the baby happens to touch the water. I had a bad experience and would like to share with you.

I don't drink tea, but I drink a lot of coffee and like you I put my milk/creamer and sweetener in first. Just seems to mix better that way. I can judge better how much I'm putting in better, too.

I always put the sugar in first then pour in the tea, I make tea in a pot most of the time. Then last of all I would add the milk and give it a good stir.

I love black tea with milk! First I make a black tea and let it draw, then I add a little bit of milk so it's not too cold and stays strong.
