I am still using dial up and downloaded the program Skype. Will it work on my end? I can change to high speed if necessary to be able to use the program. Want to see our grandkids who are quite a distance from us.

hello carolbee i am sorry but i have never heard of Skype before. you might want to change over to high speed internet service if your wanting to see lots of photographs and videos of your grandkids like that. i appreciated having dial-up in the past so that i could have access to the internet but we have a dsl line now that is lots faster than the dial-up was. and i do like the dsl line lots better of course now when my home telephone rings, i don't have to worry about getting bumped offline. lol grrr, i used to hate that. good luck to you in figuring out how to use skype. take care and have a beautiful afternoon.

It's a neat program that can be used from my computer to call another computer that also has a videocam. We can see each other since it's live. By the above responses, it looks as though I need to get rid of dial up and move on to high speed. My problem is the burglar alarm here. It's connected to one phone line and I have another to use for the computer and my husband's business. Not sure how to handle this until I call the alarm company and get all the details. Then I can make a change. Thanks for responding.

Dial up is not good for skype, the other end gets a robot like sounding voice. It used to happen to me even using a low speed Dsl connection, it's needs to be a high speed connection for it to work good.

Thank you so much for responding to this discussion. I did notice that high speed to high speed on Skype will have somewhat of a delay also. Our daughter has high speed and we called our other daughter. We were disconnected several times also. Guess it's time to make a change to high speed. Have a good day, carolbee
