For one to have a effective prayer life we must have a humble spirit, Prayer moves the hand of God, But it must be humble prayer. We cannot enter God's presence with a list of demands or a detaild plan the we only want him to bless. Instead we must go with a open hearts and open hands ready to receive whatever he knows is best for us. We must realize that he is a holy God and he does what pleases him, so when we go into prayer we must make our self available to him to use us for his glory, and whatever he gives us its for our own good.

You are right, we have to humble ourselves when praying but it is okey for us to be specific of what we pray for. But not in a way that you are manipulative and causing God like he is a genie in a lamp. Remember what the scripture says in Matt. 6:8 "Your Father who knows what you need before you ask."
