Everyone is pondering what they are going to do, where they are going to eat and what they are going to buy for their loved one on Valentine's Day. I was just wondering what you are going to do on Friday the 13th? Is it just another day for you or do you have any special preparations to make for the day? Are you superstitious of this day? The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia. It comes from the Greek words Friday (paraskevi) Thirteen (dekatreis) and Fear ( phobia). The 1st writen evidence of this superstition was documented in 1869 in the biography of Gioachino Rossini. He regarded his unlucky day to be Friday and his unlucky number to be 13. It just so happened that he died on November, Friday 13. It just so happens that I am not superstitious, and it seems that I have luck on this day. Many years ago when I was only 13 years old, I was walking to town with a group of friends. Low and behold, I found a small roll of money on the ground. We were passing the police station on our way and I found myself going in to let them know of the money found. I looked at the clock and it was a few minutes after 1 pm The 13th hour) They kept it along with my name and number, they already knew me, it was a small town. A month later, I got to keep the money $113. True story. My niece had a daughter many years ago on Friday, Dec. 13th in the 13th hour of the day after 13 1/2 hours of labor. It's a good day for us here.

Wow what a lovely story! I was not aware that the fear of Friday 13th had a particular name and now I am curious. I am in Italy and here Friday 13th has no particular importance. It is when Friday is the 17th that it is supposed to be unlucky here. Whatever the date I am not concerned. I will just be one day older and supposedly one day wiser too - but of course that is open to question! Thank you for sharing your story and once again proving that honesty pays! Happy Lotting!

I was unaware of Friday the 17th being unlucky in Italy as well. I did look it up and it has basically the same superstitions as our Friday the 13th does. The 17th always seemed to be my lucky day and number regardless of what day of the week it fell on. My birthday is considered a lucky day, not just to me and my Mom, but to the Irish as well, March 17th. Like you said, it is just another day. I am sure that we all get wiser each and every day!! Thanks for your response and have a great day.

I love to feed the birds in my back yard and watch the different species that show up. When I saw this, I just had to have it as my avatar. I do manage to stand out by my trees amongst the feeders as the birds eat. I have had the experience of afew droppings, just never in my mouth.

I always love Friday the 13th. It is my lucky day! My husband and I were married on Friday the 13th, and he always brings me flowers when this day rolls around. My sons first birthday was also on Friday the 13th. My wedding day was the luckiest day of my life. My husband and I didn't have a choice on the matter since my father was going to pass away, so we choose the first day our schedules would allow. We were married in the hospital because my father was in the ICU. IT was beautiful and perfect. Oh yeah and my dad was also born on the 13th as well.

Hi Glords, Wow! It does sound like the 13th is a lucky day for you too. You have 2 great reasons for being happy on those days. Lucky you, you will have another day of luck next month too. The 13th of March is also on a Friday. I am happy for you that you made a sad situation a little happier and I am sure your Dad was very proud of you that day and very thankful that you shared it with him. Happy Friday the 13th and hope you have a Happy Valentines Day too. Thanks for your response.

wow, friday the 13th day is a lucky day for you! :D anyway, we participated in a bench cheering competition and it was, well, embarrassing since we only practiced for a very short time. there were bloopers and the usual routine mistakes but over-all it was fun. so, friday the 13th does not really mean bad luck to me.

Hi Anora, Thank you for your response. I was surprised to read the history of Friday the 13th as well. I never realized it went so far back and was basically created by one man's fear. Enjoy the day.
