Kenya is a country in East Africa and the world's 47th largest country. Kenya is renowned for its' abundance and variety and wildlife. We're also the only country in the world that has a snowcapped mountain- Mount Kenya- right on the equator. We're a nation of 36 million, of diverse ethnicity and races. Kenya was a British colony from 1885 up until 1963. Our recent politicat history(past one year) may have been tumultuous, but Kenya has enjoyed relative peace in the last 40 years In 2007 the annual Wildebeast migration was named the eight wonder of the world! The capital city of Kenya is Nairobi, which is considered cosmopolitan. Tell me what you know or what you'd like to know about my beautiful country!

I knew absolutely NOTHING about Kenya, except for this cool guy in my Sociology discussion class is from there (although I'm not sure what city). I feel as though a lot of people think all of Africa is rural. Is Nairobi really industrious? Is it like the "New York City" equivalent of the United States?

Hi Maezee! Nairobi is industrialized. There are many factories (both manufacturing and processing plants). We have skyscrapers, the worst traffic in East, Central, Southern...no wait probably the whole continent! We have malls as well. There are 5 major media houses, over 80 radio stations, and access to satellite TV. Nairobi is actualyy the New York of Africa. We certainly don't go to sleep. But we're not as big as New York. The population of New York is 10 million. The population of Nairobi is 3 million.

I learned something about Kenya when I was in the school. I especially like the wild animals in your country. These animals are unique and only can be available in Africa. I love China

Hi mama, My dad was in Eldoret few years ago. Its one of the most wonderful place in the earth. Beautiful country, nice food and excellent climate. The only thing which is not good is the backwardness of the people there. Still people dont want to progress god knows y. Africa is a rich source of minerals and i really wonder y they are still so below poverty line most of the places. Its been exploited by European and the white population for ages and i dont know when its going to stop. Exploitation may not be the right word as they themselves dont want to do good for them. I personally love africa. I lova nature, wildlife and i would love to spend time in Kenya. Cheers, Tutul

Hi Tutu! Pay us a visit. I'll be your official tour guide! Backwardness is relative. I think what your dad meant were the poverty levels. Eldoret is a small city with 2 universities and a major airport. Yes, poverty levels are high, but not very different from the rest of the continent and parts of Asia and Latin America. We boast a literacy level of 90% which is really high for anywhere in the world. The reason for poverty is the unequal distribution of resources. Like Brazil, the gap between the rich and the poor is very vast. and the middle class is very small.
