The photo club I belong to is having an exhibit at a local library. Every member of the club can submit one photo to be hung in the exhibition. The photos will be on display for a little over a month. I'm very excited about this, and I definitely plan on submitting a photo. I just have no idea what photo to submit! I don't know if I should submit a photo that has already been on display somewhere else that already generated a lot of positive attention, or if I should submit something totally new! I don't know if I should submit something of mine that the other club members have seen before. Because even if the club members have seen it, the people going to the library haven't seen it before! Or maybe I should submit something totally new that the club members haven't seen before either. Ack! I have no idea! Not to mention the fact that once I've narrowed it down to something either new or old I still have to pick one photo to submit! Do you have trouble deciding what photos to show in exhibitions, or does it come easy for you? How do you decide what to enter? If you were me, what would you enter- something new? Something old? Do you like to share your photos in exhibitions?

Well, when the mind cannot decide, I let the heart do the selection. I will use the mind to see if I want something new, or something old. And then, I will use the thumbnail function and browse through my photo collections. And the ones that calls out to me, I select them. And repeat the process till I find one that calls out to me more than the others. That would be the one to put up for the exhibition.

I have never entered any exhibitions myself, so I can't really say if I have trouble with that. Although, I am terribly indecisive when to comes to pretty much everything so I would guess I would have trouble. As for your situation, my personal opinion would be to pick a photo that you haven't exhibited before, but that your other club members have seen. To me I think that's the best middle ground; you get a chance to exhibit something you haven't before, but yet it is something that some others have already seen, so it kind of works both as new (for most viewers), yet familiar for your club members. It might give you some piece of mind knowing your club mates have seen it, yet you get a chance to display a photo that hasn't had a chance like that before. Sorry, I was just typing...I didn't realize how long winded that was lol.

If I were you... I have to know first the mean theme of the exhibition. What is it, my friend? Old or new are just the angle of your picture, I think. Sometimes we find something new in the old one, or something old in the new one. Success to you, my friend!

The exhibition doesn't have a theme. It's just to promote our club as well as promote the individuals artists in the club. And by "old" I don't necessarily mean a photo I took a long time ago... just one I have already entered in other competitions or exhibitions. I may select a "new" photo that I took years ago, but just haven't submitted to anything.

Congratulations to you! If I were you, I would just enter with "my best work", or my favourites. I am sure you have taken a lot of photos but some must be your favourites, I would enter with you! Good luck!
