Would you rather stay home or go to work?

I worked for 30+ years outside of my home. For about 14 years I was a single mother, and at one time I worked 2 jobs and went to school. For years and years I wished that I could stay at home. About 3 years ago I developed serious back problems, and I have been staying home since then. I did go to Real Estate school, and I have my Real Estate license. So, I work occasionally outside of the home, but not very much. Mostly now I am working on-line to make a little income. Now that I am home so much, I feel disconnected. I would not use the term "stir crazy", but "bored" might be closer to it. Every day is the same. My brain feels like mush sometimes. I can't say that I want to get back into the work force, but I just wish I felt more motivated and active at home. I guess some of it is that I am lonely. I just feel lazy. I sleep a lot. I don't have any energy. This may be a case of "be careful what you wish for". Because now that I am home, I am not as happy as I always thought I would be. I always thought I would get so much done, and I could concentrate on doing the fun things I like to do (spend the day at the pool, cross-stitch, read, do projects around the house, etc). Instead, I cannot get motivated. Has this happened to anybody else? If you work now, do you wish you could stay home? If you stay home, do you wish you had a job? If you stay home do you always get a lot done?

I felt that way for a long time when I quit work. After a while I got use to it. I worry sometimes that my job skills are going down the tubes. Its hard sometimes to get a job if you've been out of the work force for awhile, but my Mom needs me right now. I never really get bored though. There is many things to do around the house and I have several hobbies I enjoy.

I also started going to the gym and that has helped with the lack of energy too. I feel so much better even though I only go about 15 min. or so a day.

Maybe that is what I should do....go to the gym. That is a good idea, as long as I can make myself do it. I definitely need to get some exercise.

I have a business so I have the chance to stay at home and work at the same time. I put my office in our house so I can also supervise our house while working. I like earning money.

I like earning money, too. Good luck with your business. It's nice that you can do both (work and stay home). Thanks for your response!

I NEVER wanted to stay home. Well, I never wanted to be a stay at home mom or a housewife, YECK! I stayed at home for the first 3 yrs of each of my children because I was told that is when they learn the most. But I worked part time for some of that time or I would have gone stark raving mad! Funny, but now I am at home and I am happy. But my role is NOT as a housewife. I am at home because I am self-employed. BIG DIFFERENCE!

I prefer working outside to staying at home because outside can provide us more chance to communicate .you can meet all kind of person which will enrich your life .It is more challenged .

I use to work outside of my home until my second child came along. I have to say that I really love it. Now my house stays clean, I'm able to see my son do all of his firsts. What I do is either some nights when my husband is home or on the weekends I make my time. That is where I go and meet up with friends or just go shopping with no kids just me. As long as my youngest is not in school I will never go back to work. But then again when he starts school in 3 1/2 yrs I dont think I will want to go to work. Hope you have a great day.

It is great that you get to stay home with your child. I never was able to do that. Now that I am home, I am here by myself. You also sound like you have a lot of energy and get a lot accomplished at home. I think that is great. I guess I just need to change my mindset somehow and learn to appreciate what I have. I would have given my right arm to stay home when I had to work everyday. I should be happy about it now. Thanks for your comment!

I've always said "I wish I didn't have to work" but in all honesty I would not enjoy being at home all the time. I start getting bored after the first few days of a week's vacation! I can only clean so much and that usually gets done in one day so after that I'm out of things to do besides play on the internet all day and even that gets boring after awhile.

Sometimes I wish I could spend more time at home. But my present job seems to give the right balance. I can stay at home during the weekend if I wish so. I wouldn't consider staying home for too long. By the time the weekend is over, I long to be back at work, to see my colleagues and enjoy some fresh air.

I would LOVE to have a job that allowed me the opportunity to work from home. I hate going out in public, and I hate dealing with people. I am good at dealing with people most of the time, but I hate having to put up with stupid/rude people. I would also like to work at home so that I wouldn't have to drive as much every day. I have not had any luck finding a job like this yet, but I am hopeful that I will someday...
