How can a film be good that is based on a ride at Disneyland and Disney World? Leave it to Disney to spin a tale of Pirates with the likes of Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley. I am not saying that some of the scenes do not go beyond believable but the fun of this film is that you do not care by the time the actors get done with it all. Johnny Depp's character looks as if he could be growing a real crop of head lice and he definitely looks as if he has not bathed EVER! Why then is his character so appealing. Could it be that you just have to keep watching the more the story is revealed of plot upon plot wrapped around mystery, legend, and history. Captain Jack Sparrow continues to play by the rules only to break them at every turn. It may help to watch this in closed caption to catch some of the mutterings of this multifaceted man in the role of a pirate. This movie shows how the love of money and riches totally corrupts and yet how love and tenacity struggle to prevail. Orlando Bloom's character is of a young man who comes from nothing and yet he becomes a most noble man. Elizabeth, the governer's daughter, thinks for herself and is very fascinated with pirates to the point that she is well informed of their lifestyle and uses her knowledge to barter for her life and for others around her as need be throughout the movie. Most of the time is backfires on her but she does not give up. You will see many small items pop up here and there that become important further into the story both in the first film and in the two to follow. How do they all tie in? You will have new questions every time you watch the trilogy. The depiction of this period of time is accurate. The scenes are well set and the sword fights are memorable to say the least. This movie breaks all the social barriers that each character is supposedly assigned to and makes the view4er feel as if they can break out of any hindrances in their own life as they travel through this story. Let yourself get lost in the story and you will find yourself cheering for the social outcasts and loathing the socially accepted. Just don't get too close to the screen or Jack Sparrow's piracy may rub off on you.

I loved all three of them! I think the sense of adventure and pirate action really boosted the interest for me. I'd give it a 9/10. :)
