I am having one desk top computer, which is running somewhat slow than earlier today. As I am having a doubt of infected by virus,I tried to scan with anti virus software ( Norton 360). Then the computer is restarting automatically while the scanning is in progress before it is finished. Then I stared the scanning again but now also it is restarting. It happened 4 or 5 times and I am not able complete the scanning process. If we stop the scanning process, then the system is working with slightly less speed. What may be the cause for this?

Norton 360 makes some desktop computer works slower. Download AVG free edition and keep updating it. And scan with AVG and see if you have the same problem. If not, uninstall the norton antivirus. Then redo a scan. AVG will not make your computer run slower. Also delete all file of norton in program files. And do a disk defragment. If you are still facing the problem do let me know.

Have you been able to get some help from any my lotters? Can you check if your cpu fan is working? I was getting the same problem like you, my system was restarting. It was my cpu fan who was not working, whenever my processor reach the higher temperature the system would restart. Check it out and let me know.

Install al the security updates and hotfix released by microsoft from update.microsoft.com and if possible upgrade your operating system to windows xp service pack 3. Use eset nod32 antivirus . use some tools to correct registry problems and programs, startup errors etc...this might help you. best of luck

Better uninstall the existing anti virus software and install some other and run the scan again. Even then if it is restarting again, you may have to install the OS, since it seems some kind of virus in your system.
