43 cars is too many

Don't you think 43 cars is too many for the races? I mean I don't know how many times I have seen a race coming up to an exciting finish and then some car that is totally out of contention hits the wall or something and everything is messed up. Or they have a double file restart and the lapped cars get in the way so the leader gets way out in front and the rest are spaced out way behind. Personally I want to see some actual racing and passing. If I want to see a parade I will watch the Macy's thanksgiving day parade or the Rose parade on new years. I'm tired of non-competitive cars just getting in way of the competitive ones. I'd like to see them cut back the number of cars starting. I also want to see them pull some of the cars off the track if they are several laps down after say 80-90% of the laps are run. Let them end their day, save the fuel and tires, etc. I think they go to a single file restart when there are 10 or less laps to go. I want to see the single file restart rule come in early, like with 10-20% of the laps to go I mean if you are racing and you are 10 miles behind the leader why don't we just say thanks, better luck next time.

43 cars is fine. But I agree, if you're a certain number of laps down, say 5 or more, then I think you should be parked for the rest of the race. I've never seen a guy go 5 laps down and then come back to win a race.

I guess i can live with 43 starting. It could be like making the cut in golf or even making the playoffs i other sports. At some point I want to see the best cars compete for a win and positions without interference from the lapped traffic.

I agree that 43 is probably too many cars. I agree with timhinny that the larger tracks can handle the full 43 and the smaller tracks can't, but if they must have the same start every race I would like to see it cut down a bit (maybe 35). There are some teams that just start a race to collect starting points and don't have any plan of finishing because of budget reasons, I know NASCAR is trying to fix that in the top series, and hopefully they will. I would also like to see the end of the double-file restart, at least for the last half of the race. It has always bothered me that they intermingle slow cars with front runners with that type of restart. To me, the fast cars need to be at the front. I don't think I'd pull any teams that are still running, but the slow cars shouldn't be a major hinderance to the leaders.

The problem with pulling lapped cars off the track is that they would receive a DNF instead of being credited for finishing the race in a certain position and earning points. You can't say that they would keep their positions after being pulled because you never know when a wreck or mechanical problem will take out someone at the head of the pack. So, in my opinion, everyone deserves a fair shot at finishing every race.

personally for me it depends on the track for the bigger tracks lik daytona and talledega 43 cars is just fine even though they are always bumper to bumper because of the restrictor plates but for the small tracks like bristol and martinsville and richmond 43 cars seems to be way to many and just an accident waiting to happen
