Merriam-Webster, an online dictionary publisher, announced that the most looked up word for 2005 was integrity.” Hardly surprising considering the world news and events over the previous 12 months, but I still found it somewhat comforting. Amongst all the corruption, tragedy and scandal, people were searching for something true, something genuine. Do we know the true meaning of integrity?

Hello my friend zhuhuifen46 Ji, So nice of for starting this discussion. I suppose, it is un-broken relation with any thing. Let's find out more from Dictionary : http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/integrity 1. adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty. 2. the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished: to preserve the integrity of the empire. 3. a sound, unimpaired, or perfect condition: the integrity of a ship's hull. I think, world will remain for years and years to come. may God bless you and have a great time.

Thank you so much for your support. While confronting a lot of negative things, we need to keep positive and be stronger, in an all round way, so as to overcome the challenges.

You are quite correct. That is interesting. One wonders, though, whether this is indicative of the fact that people are yearning for it, or whether it is one of those things that people know use when they want to create a false impression of their integrity, when they are in fact anything but. You know, in the way that if someone overstresses their honesty, you immediately begin to doubt whether it in fact exists. Integrity, by my definition, is someone in whose hand knowledge, power and/or money will always be a tool for good, rather than a weapon for own interest.

Those who don't have created havoc! Those who do continue to try to cope as the economy crushes dreams and destroys lives. That may seem to be an exaggeration, but the facts are quite clear. No wonder so many jeer at those who cherish integrity, calling them suckers and continuing to ask what's in everything for them.

I would like to be able to look at this fact from your point of view, however the first thing that struck me was the idea of so many people having no idea what integrity is. I am well aware that most of these people probably has a rough idea, but if you think about it in strictly a poetic sense; a bunch of greedy ignorant people who dont know integrity. I think the true meaning on integrity is getting more and more buried in useless sh*t every day.

Thanks for responding no matter what attitude you cherished toward the topic. These days when people are spending so much of their efforts seeking for financial rewards, some are neglecting their moral competence, but in due time, their career development is hindered more or less. It is true also for enterprises. So many are doomed to failure for lack of valuing integrity. With numerous abuses, people are likely to feel frustrated when hering people talking about it, or feel lazy to remind people around, even their children, of its importance, or suspect the intent of anyone who are still keen on integrity. All this could be well understood. I used to work for a j.v. which earned the honor in successive 8 years as among the 10 most admired enterprises in China. The honor is closely related with the initial orientation to all employees through establishing the values of the company, amony which integrity is placed upfront on the list. In Chinese language, we have the words equivalent to honest, sincere, fair, true, kind, etc., but not a combination of all the merits, integrity. It really took some time to put it into Chinese. Hence the coaching or mentoring started with siting examples. And lucky and naturally, once the values are set, the company is in one mind in executing the value, in all its activities, including product planning, manufacturing, marketing, etc. as an industrial citizen of integrity. No cheating in technology, best workmanship in manufacturing, maximal value to cost prices, etc. with highly motivated human resources, cost effective financing, under the leadership of an integral executive committee, pursuing contribution to build up a competitive enterprise in the industry, to best reward the shareholders, employees, suppliers, customers, and the society at large. That is my understanding of integrity, which may be superficial, but I will keep enthusiastic on integrity, wishing all the best for you and for good-will people from all cultures.

integrity is hard to come by these days. i could define integrity as being true to one's self. but in the face of survival, is integrity or dignity worth it? is integrity pride? are you willing to exchange your integrity for a thousand dollars in some reality tv show? life is not so simple nowadays. we know that everything and everyone is like a coin with its two disparate sides. if even the concept of god is challenged, what more for integrity?
