Is addiction real? If addiction means you are unable to stop smoking or drinking then wouldn't it be something you'd be doomed to do forever? What about people who stop smoking (or anything else) cold turkey? So many people say they can't quit something because they are addicted but I think that somewhere along the line it is a choice. People don't quit the things they are supposedly addicted to because they don't want to, not because it can't be done. Too many others have kicked habits that were self destructive and caused them to lose jobs, loved ones, social standing and threaten their very lives. So why is it some people just refuse to give up things that they know are bad for them? Is it a question of maturity? Spirituality? Why can't they stop doing those things they know only create problems for them in the long run? Not to mention that habits like smoking affect other people and can cause serious health problems from asthma attacks to cancer. So if you're a smoker and you know smoking can cause all sorts of problems as well as narm others around you why keep doing it? Are these people with so-called addictions selfish? Habits are learned, can they not be unlearned?

Addiction is just a bad habit people don't want to take personal responsibility for. The very definition mentions a compulsive habit. I agree that habits can be broken. It takes faith and will power. (Plus some common sense, such as in the dangers of smoking.)
