I live in the south and we have those sever thunderstorms For the next two days the weather forecast is calling for rain and thunderstorm. In the summer month, when we have these storms they can be so strong that when a lightning strike it will sound so loud it will shake the house, make up duck for cover. It doesn't matter if you are in the house or outside. You will go down. There was a tree in my neighbors back yard that I could see from my back door that had been struck by lightning and it split that tree in half. My door bell was once struck by lighting ( the box that is in my attic.) Have you ever been struck by lightning? Do you know of anyone that has been struck by lightning? Where you live do you have many thunderstorms?

I miss those southern thunderstorms. We don't get them near as often on the west coast and the ones we do have aren't usually as grand. I remember one storm when I was back there in which two Navy Seaman were out in it. They were walking side by side when lightening struck and hit the ground. One of them happened to be stepping on a metal grate the other was on the asphalt. The lightening hit the grate and killed the seaman while his friend right next to him escaped any injury. I have a healthy respect for thunderstorms but I find them awesome and so I'm not really afraid of them. I think it's much more likely I'd go in a car accident than that I'd be hit by lightening.

I am in deep south Texas and we don't have a whole lot of them but when we do they are pretty bad. Right now we are having a bad drought and need a good steady rain. I personally don't know of anyone who has been struck by lightning. My mother and I were close enough one time to some that it buzzed right past us and hit a transformer. My husband was working at a refinery and lightning struck the little shack they were taking cover in. One time I was driving and lightning struck a transformer and it knocked something off of there that hit the hood of the car then the windshield. That is as close as I have come to being hit by any and that is close enough, don't like hearing that frying noise when it goes by.

I understand where you are coming from. I don't want anything to do with it either. I remember when I was living with my grandmother she would make everyone sit down and be quiet. She said God was doing his work.

My grandparents lived in the northern part of Texas and I can remember when there and the storm clouds would be coming in we would have to go in the storm cellar until the storms were gone.

When I was a little girl, we lived in northern Virginia and had thunderstorms quite often. One time a lightening storm was carrying on and all of the sudden "BOOM!!!!!" and my brothers come flying out of their bedroom screaming, "Lightening hit the house! Lightening hit the house!" Then it was "The house is on fire!" That's all I remember but it was enough to scare the day lights out of me!! My grandmother was petrified of storms for the rest of her life. She'd panic when one was brewing and she'd hide in the lowest part of her house and unplugged everything.

Hi Chevee. I live in Florida so we have a lot of thunderstorms. I don't know anyone who has gotten hit by lightening tho. But I have heard on the news about people who have. Our house was hit once when the lightening hit the close line that was attached to the garage and the house. It struck some foil wrap I had in the cabinet and broke a mirror that was on the wall. Very scary. We smelled smoke but there was no fire and not much damage.

Thank god.. I never got struck by lightning. But before some years, when rain started at 6pm, I went to home top to take my t shirt, where i laid on the wall. After taking and before leaving down, My god.. I saw that monster lying to ground with a terrible sound. I feared and immediately came down also locking the door at top of the home. These lightning facts always makes me fear. A lightning bolt generates temperatures five times hotter than those found at the sun's surface! Lightning strikes about 6,000 times per minute on this planet! Men are 6 times more likely to be struck by lightning than women! One lightning bolt has enough electricity to service 200 000 homes.

My house got zapped before, my tv got fried. Lucky for us nothing else got fried. This was before I had my computer. My mom had called just a few minutes before the storm hit and told me to have my son unplug his computer equipment, lucky for him he was able to do it. We were without power for about 8 hours, the outside wires melted. We really got lucky, no fires. I used to work for a company that did cleaning after fires and other disasters, I have seen what lightning can do, its very scary. I am so careful now when we have storms, I hurry up and unplug my computer, I have surge protectors too, but why take a chance.

I love to watch thunderstorms and the lightening. The closest that i have ever come to being struck was when a wind came up along with the lighting storm. I had a planter hanging on one of those Shepard hooks in the back yard near the patio. The wind had it blowing almost level with the ground. I decided I better get it down before it took off to the neighbors and destroyed something over there. as I headed out the back door some lightening struck near by to the ground. I decided that the wind could have the plant. No way was I going out to try to save it. Any way the wind didn't take the plant.

Hey chevee! That must have been scary to see a tree split in half by lightening! We don't get alot of thunderstorms here. We do get some in the summer when it's really hot and humid. And we have alot of broken branches and old trees here and are always afraid that they are going to be hit and fall into one of the apartment buildings. I don't know anyone who has ever been hit by lightening.
