Firefox weirdness

I have Vista with Firefox 2.0.0.12. The reason I have an older version of Firefox is that when I try to upgrade to 3.0, I lose the bookmark function and the other menu items will sometimes open and sometimes not. Couldn't figure that out, so I just upgraded from 2.0.0.12 to 2.20 and the browser wouldn't open at all. I found a profile that was marked "read only" and changed that, but it didn't make a difference. I uninstalled and reinstalled several times... no difference. Has anyone else had those problems with Firefox? Any solutions??

It's a lot harder to ruin a pc than you'd think! Changing browsers won't do it and if you run into trouble, just change back. Thanks for commenting.

I really wish they'd at least acknowledge that they have problems with Vista. I like Firefox and hate to think about changing browsers, but if this keeps up I may have to - don't know which one though. I don't think it's too much to ask to have a browser that works.
