What kind of minerals are most prevalent where you are?

We had several iron mines in our area that are mostly mined out, but there is iron ore in our soil, too. There used to be granite in one spot, but that was mined out and it was not the high quality stuff you get in Vermont. There used to be Redford glass, but that went under. We have many sand pits here. We've had different kind of glass companies come and go, mostly because foreign glass is cheaper. A ways away, Herkimer has the clearest quartz you've ever seen. There is dark clay by the riverbeds and some people use that for pottery, after processing, just a few people and a few pots. So what kind of minerals, stones, dirt, etc. is in your area?

In some parts of our country there are iron ores, manganese ores, chromite, copper, gold and silver. There are also limestone, marble, clay, feldspar, silica sand and quartz. There are some mining companies still operating but most have closed down. There are some quarry sites and small-scale miners are prevalent nowadays.

I didn't know all that was/is in the Phillipines. Interesting. What did they use the manganese and chromite for? How nice was the Marble? Thank you very much for your response and take care.

Hi there. Philippines is rich in minerals but mining is not so booming because of some cause-oriented groups who oppose mining. I wonder if these people who are against mining would be willing to go go back to the stone age and live in caves and give up their comfort in life like their computers, their house, utensils, mobile phones, cars and are willing to walk to reach their destination or ride in horses and not ride in cars, bus or plane, coz most of what we have now and are using came from minerals or have mineral components. Well, to answer your question, most of the ores that we have here like iron ores, manganese, chromite, nickel are exported to other countries where they are processed and made into steel and other products.

Thanks It's difficult, on the one hand, people need money and the other, there is the enviroment. There should be some way to minimize inpact on the environment and yet get people working and use the natural minerals that your country has to offer. We're trying to figure that out with our windmills up here. Thanks
