Why do most of Obama's staff choices seem to have one requirement....tax evasion? Here is the latest: Obama's Trade Pick Owes IRS $10,000 Former Dallas mayor Ron Kirk has agreed to file amended returns. Former Dallas mayor Ron Kirk, who is President Obama's nominee to be the U.S. trade representative, failed to pay almost $10,000 in taxes during the past three years because of a series of mistakes, the Senate Finance Committee said yesterday. Kirk's errors involved honoraria from speeches, on which he should have paid taxes; the cost of sports games, for which he deducted too much; and improper treatment of accounting fees on his income taxes. Kirk has agreed to file amended returns. An Obama spokesman declared the issues "minor" and said the administration is confident that the nomination is on track for a scheduled hearing Monday with the Finance Committee. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/02/AR2009030202400.html?wpisrc=newsletter

I don't know Whiteheather, but I think maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to have an accountant in on the vetting of these people. Having made a few little tax bloopers (That's my term. The IRS didn't agree.) of my own in the past, I try to be noncommital but this is getting a little silly.

Oops, I meant nonjudgmental. Noncommital doesn't make sense there

Whiteheather, This man (Obama) believes he sits above the law so why wouldn't it follow that he also would believe anyone he appoints is also above the law? The MSM who were so quick to throw "Joe" the plumber under the bus for unpaid taxes now downplay these issues when it comes to their "messiah's" appointees! Obama is so quick to tell America that he intends to punish success with higher taxes but he can't seem to find anyone for his Whitehouse staff that actually pays theirs!

Oh dear, it seems to be quite a common occurrence now and hope it's not making the new president a laughing stock. I guess he doesn't know every single detail about his staff but whoever's recruiting these people, one would think they'd make more stringent checks on their suitability for office...

Wow, he seems to attract them like flies. And to think that they gave Joe the plumber so much grieve over not paying his taxes... yet no such stuff is declared being a 'minor issue'... yeah, right.... This is getting increasingly more embarrassing....
