I'm agains it also and it makes me more than a tad nervous. When the second ammendment was put in place, there were no police departments, wild animals were at the front door, hunting was a necessary way to obtain food and nobody ever heard of an automatic gun much less what they have nowdays. Times have changed and we have to adjust. Recently in Philadelphia, the mayor had to fight tooth and n... |

I'm not crazy about snakes but I've never really understood the strong hatred people have for them. I may not want one for a pet but I'm totally okay with leaving the slithery little guys alone. I had a friend who had a snake for a pet and she told me that they have as much character as a cat or dog once you get to know them. I'll just take her word for that. But I think you're right, they are ... |

How can anyone who can't operate a computer look forward and plot the future? I didn't know that any of the candidates were actually computer illiterate. I think it's a definite negative for McCain. It seems the same as a president in an earlier age not being able to read or write. Imagine an illiterate Abe Lincoln! |

This is what just eight years of George W. Bush has done to us. Remember the early Clinton/Gore years and how promising everything looked? They ushered in a new era with the internet and we all felt good. Even though those years lost some luster, we still had a balanced budget and a fiscally sound country. Now it has to start again from scratch just like at the end of the first Bush presidency.... |

Of the thirteen original colonies, twelve had official or unoffficial state religions (The Calvinism of New York, the Puritans in new England, the Catholics in Maryland etc.) There was one notable exception. Pennsylvania was under William Penn's "Holy Experiment" that guaranteed religious freedom to all and THAT was the ideal used by the founding fathers when framing the consititution. Of cours... |
 | irisheyes responded to a discussion called Why Are Hollywood Stars So Liberal? in politics. 4 days ago
I think creative types tend to be more empathetic and therefore more liberal. It's not just Hollywood. The majority of writers, artists and musicians are
Dems. In fact people who deal in books, antiques and art also tend to be Democrats. Actually, you could probably make a good case for most smart, creative people being liberal Democrats. |
 | irisheyes responded to a discussion called Does an Alternate Energy Plan Already Exist??? in politics. 4 days ago
I've heard of this guy and I think he's on to something. Obviously he's biased since he stands to make money but others are also pushing for change in how we look at the energy crises. In PA, our governor (Ed Rendel) just set aside billions for wind energy and two Spanish firms are making parts in some of the old steel mills.
I definitely think the time has come for alternative energy source... |

Yes, I did once live through a hurricane but I was only eight years old and I'd be hard pressed today to even remember her name. (They all had female names back then)What I do remember is being in the basement of our neighbor's house and playing with my brother and their kids. My dad moved us because he was so concerned about a gigantic old tree in the side yard of our house. Well, it turned ou... |
