Orange Juice-ing

We do not have an electric juicer so for the first time, I manually "juiced" several oranges. And now I'm enjoying the "fruits" of my labor in a tiny glass. We also have apples in the house but I don't think I'll be trying to juice them for now. I think apples require more than squeezing and twisting your wrist. Do you "juice" your fruits? Does it taste more refreshing than the ones you get from the store? My hands smell citrus-y though and that beats the scent of my hands after cutting several onions.

Hi Sisi! Great to see you after long! How are you doing? I love to drink home made fresh juice and it certainly tastes better that the market ones. I do remember juicing lemons and oranges when my nieces came down. But now, I am pretty much conscious about y health and have almost stopped drinking juice and made it mandatory for my parents also. I would rather eat the oranges or any other fruit.

Oh yes it does! But I have been trying hard to let go of juices because of the health thing. I seem to peel, chew and eat the fruits these days.

As I have mentioned in another response, it will take me a while to get to like eating oranges as they are.

Home made just sounds that it will taste better, doesn't it, mou? So you no longer drink juice at all? Why?

Hi Anne, Wow...that's cool! I have tried doing that but only in oranges since it is easy to squeeze them. I love it but makes me always to think, I am wasting my fruits for it's little juice that will come out! LOL! SOmetimes, I will think I'd rather eat it! LOL!

For me, it is. But I don't know if you lose some nutrients along the way if you juice fruits.

I am still in the "beginning" stages of eating oranges. I have never liked a lot of citrus fruits and it took me a while to even enjoy a good glass of OJ without my face puckering. Though my face still puckers every time I see someone else eat oranges. Enjoy your fruits, checapricorn!

An electric juicer would be nice to have, riyasam. But I am sure that "manual" juice was made with lots of love and determination.

Fresh fruit juices are really far more delicious compared to bottled, well just my own observation. I love to juice fruits myself for my kids but sometimes, due to time constraints I just buy bottled juices for them. Five years ago I bought my electric juicer and so far it's still working impressively..thanks for I can't afford to buy a new one.hehehe! Happy juicing SaintAnne!

Right now, an electric juicer is not on the top of my list of must-haves but it would be nice and convenient to have one around in the house. Have fun with your kids, mjmlagat.

I am still learning my way through fruits that are in season. Yes, it is much better and more healthy if we consume those that naturally are ready during specific seasons... thanks for your input, vasavi. Greatly appreciated.

Sweet limes and lemon juice only. And now that it's the summer season that is starting here i'll be doing it quite often. Actually nothing like fresh fruit juice and that to when we prepare it ourselves. You get to add the right amount of other ingredients if any, sugar, salt, and of course as cold as we want it to be. Now i'm craving for some orange juice

We have lemons too. I was contemplating whether I should make an orange-lemon concoction but my wrist decided it for me to just stay with the oranges. Orange juice is good for ya. I keep hearing that growing up as I'm one who used to not enjoy drinking the OJ. Now, I consume even the pulp. Thanks Alokn. Keep hydrated and cool during the summer season. We're still having much-needed rain over here.

Nope, never done that. I usually buy my orange juice. I'm usually one of those store brand or generic brand buyers but for orange juice, I only usually buy tropicana. There is just something about the taste of that, it tastes better than fresh squeezed. I just bought some off brand. (under $2.00, I had to try.)It tastes just like fresh squeezed. But Tropicana tastes better.

For the love of me, I can't remember the brand I used to drink. But it was one of those that are not from concentrate. My mom gave us a bag of oranges from her yard so we are definitely making good use of a lot by juicing them. Thanks marty and enjoy the Tropicana. They should pay you for the praises you sing them.

MS SAINTLY!!!! HELLO!!! I'm happy to 'see' you! Have you been bored with MyLot too? Or just busy? I just had fresh carrot/orange juice this morning! I would not consider my kitchen complete without a juicer! We used to go through juicers like crazy... inexpensive ones that only came with a year's warranty. Sure enough, as soon as the year was up the juicer stopped working... every time! I finally broke down and spent a small fortune on one that came with a 15 year warranty. I've been very happy with it until I recently saw one that not only juices veggies and fruits thoroughly and efficiently but it also grinds flour and makes nut butters! No way my current juicer is going to give out on me though, it's still got 5 years left on the warranty... not only that but I have seen these juicers last for 30 or more years! I think I will have to sell it in a yard sale, or maybe I will keep it as a spare... it seems awfully disloyal to just sell it off after so many years of faithful service, hehehehe. Anyway, fresh juice is soooo much better than cooked, processed, and canned juices don't you agree?

Hello Ziggy. It just happened - my break from myLot. Did not mean to but it did and I think I needed it as well. I don't think I've had carrot juice or anything mixed with it. I have eaten a lot of carrots but not in the juice form. Don't even get me started on warranties... I think it's sad that nowadays companies think they are doing us some "service" if they give us a one year warranty. Back in the day... (well, I heard stories!) appliances and other things last for decades and not just within a year. So I am truly happy to hear that your juicer indeed has served you well and it would be a shame and a stab if you end up selling it off... I have just started on the "fresh" juice part so I really can't say if I get to have it more than cooked, processed and canned juices which I am used to.
