Well hard disk and flash memory base storage is getting cheaper there days. The largest thumb drives currently available is 8gb,16gb and 32 gb. The largest hard disk avaliable come is terabytes! Which brand Do you prefer? I prefer kingmax thumb drives. I prefer to keep my important files on a thumb drives and my non important files on a hard drive. The reason for that is because flash drive is can sustain a drop to the floor.Compared to harddisk if you drop it to the floor, your important data is a gonner. Please feel free to comment: )

I have both, but Now I am using two 1GB flash drives. I prefer the flash drives because because I don't have to plug them into an ac socket. Just a usb I have to worry about it.

Good topic to discuss. I personally prefer kingston flash drive since it is more convenient to take with in comprison with an external HDD. They have got bigger capacity nowadays and are cheap to buy. Now the flash drive can also be emulated as a usb-cdrom which can boot your pc into the DOS mode or PE environment for troubleshooting and computer maintenance. I format my flash drive into a bootable disk and store a univeral Ghost image of Windows Xp Which can be installed nearly on any pc today. It's really amazing.

Flash Drives are more susceptible to damages and such. Like the USB connector breaking from the stick, etc. Plus external HDs are much more sturdy and reliable and usually mean more space. Not to mention, more reliable.

I disagree. Because hardisk has moving part thus is much more sustainable to damage and wear,as in comparison flash drives does not have moving part at all.

I'm a External HDD user and I think that using a Ext.HDD is better than using a FlashDrive many issue said that FlashDrive only last after 1000 writes(99% true) so it means that FlashDrive is like a disposable device(ouch)

Well external cannot sustain shock else the mechanical part of the hdd will be damage. My Point is I don't use my flash drive regular..Basically I just dump my important filed there and will only look it up after a year. Happy mylotting.

It might be appropriate calculation, I am using my flash drive since 4 years.. Even Hard Disk may expire or damage if we write data that much number of times..

Flas drives all the weay. Simply because i have never used memory space that requires storage of GB's. I'd rather burn the required but unused data on DVD's.Secondly i find the flash drive easy to carry around.

i don't have an external hard disk and i had always been using a flash drive since i was in uni... i think it is more convenient and easier for me to use... i'm not really into technology and i prefer something simple... take care and have a nice day...

I prefer to use the flash drive for files that I need to bring with me wherever I go just in case. I like to use the external hard disk drive for storing large files like videos and pictures as well as back up for all my files in the computer (still including the ones I have in my flash drive). I don't intend to carry my external HDD with me all the time so I guess that reduces the risk of it falling on the floor.

Even though there are already storage devices that could handle monstrous file sizes, I wouldn't be able to fill it up with the things that I usually get to handle. Music files, videos, documents, games and all that.. I wouldn't still be able to fill half of a storage device that had 320 Gigabytes of free space. I already have an eight Gigabyte flash drive since I use to download files from my laptop and tranfer them to my desk top for burning but, I have not done that for a long while. I now have a 160 Gigabyte hard disk got it into a hard disk enclosure so that I could simply 'dump' anything that I could put in it. Well, by the time that I have rendered a flash drive useless, plenty of other flash drives would've already been more affordable.

I guess it will be hard disk for me.. Because i dun store much things in my computer, and i'm not in those field of work that requires me to be on the go for often too.. Thus, i have no use for a thumbdrive at all ^_^ ON top of that, i dun have anything important or files regarding to my work, and so, a thumbdrive is actually redundant to me.. hehe ^_^

Me personaly I use the flash drives I like those and yes they are getting cheaper now a days. I picked up a 2gig for 5 dollars thats cheap. As far as the external I want to get one just so I can extra space on my laptop thats what I want the external Hard drive for. But to take around I like the Flash drive. It easy to handel and carry around in a pocket or what not. I found something out though weeks ago I left mine in my pocket didnt know it got washed I freaked out because I didnt know it would still work because I had stuff on it for my job. Well I waited a few days to make sure it was dried out. And belive it or not it still worked personally I was shocked and thankful that it did.

in my opinion, a flash drive with 20-30G storage is enough for your normal work. it can be usually used to store some documents, files, pictures which sizes are not normally more than 200M. some larger files, games, videos can be stored in the hard disk of your PC.

It is best to use external Hard Disks, because the chance of failure is less when compared to the Flash Drives. Even though flash drives are very small and portable but the life period was not certain. The major disadvantage of flash drive was it was so sensible and cant with stand to mass usage. The electric pules are mainly responsible for the damage of flash drives. Coming to hard disks they came with external power supply with an adapter and can have a consistency in flow of electric pulses and high capability to withstand. Another thing was the cost of a flash drive is a little expensive but the memory capacity was less when compared to external hard disk. The maximum amount of space for a pen drive is 64GB, where as for a hard disk it is 750 GB of more. In the future it is going to be 1 TB..
