Hi friends,I want your opinions and your suggestion regarding the problem which i am experiencing from the past few days, I have been working in a night shift job, ofcourse, i do like my shift timings and not only that this job has no pressure and have been in this company from the past one year nearly,so i go to the office somewhere around in the evening at 6.00 and come back to home by morning 4.30. Now my manager has started behaving very differently from the past few months, he has been making new rules and forcing them on us, the first rule he made recently was 1. shift change from 6.30 to 3.30, where i have to go to the office in the hot sun,and come back at about 2.00 or so when it is still very dark. 2. Management has made a scheduled break timings for everyone, where every person has to take their breaks only on the time which the manager has scheduled for us, we have one hour break which is taken as 15,30,15 minutes breaks, which is now scheduled. This is the job where i take calls and i take nearly 100-120 calls per day, if we have to take scheduled breaks when we are not hungry or when we dont feel like going to the washroom what is the point of the concept of a break? For me, change in shift is too difficult, because someone from my house has to come early morning and open the house gate as there is no way that i can keep my hand inside the gate and open the lock, what should I do in this case? i feel like resigning, because i feel like a caged bird here now, earlier i was thinking of waiting for one more month as i will complete one year by april 15, but now, i seriously feel like to change my job. He is coming up with new rules every day, what do you people suggest me? please do help me in this regard with your valuable suggestions.

I think that I would have to say that if you are unhappy with your work in any way you should quit. That being said, I would recommend going through and finding another job especially if your income helps your family in anyway.

I am glad that no one is so as to make it more easier for you to decide whether or not to quit. However, I do think that it would be better to think when you're more clear so as to decide whether you yourself would like to possibly have no income for a while? Well of course other then mylot or other sites you do. Have a wonderful day.

there are a lot of people who are losing their job, lucky you that you are not one of them. having rules in the office might just testing each one of you who would give up.... i mean they might be just having a hardtime firing so they would rather have some rules to see who would resign. my sister is in a night job as well. just like yours. they also have changable rules and there is nothing that she can do but to follow. she even leaves their house earlier for she can no longer get out the house when it is around 9pm onwards for there are lots of dogs outside already by that time. so it is not only you who has need to do some sacrifices..... i am sure there are a lot more out there. but if you feel like quitting then there is no way we can stop you what ever the suggestions we give. i am just thinking that if you have a new job it might be as difficult as this or much more difficult. companies all over the world aare really getting more tight nowadays. goodluck on what ever decision you might come up with.

If you're unhappy with your job, by all means, find another one. But, one piece of advice, I'd have another job under your belt before you let the one you have go. With this current economy, it'd be a fool thing to do to take the gamble of leaving some "sure money" to find something you're not even sure on yet.

Yes dear friend, am also in the same trials of finding a new one, yaa as you said i get my pay on time, there is very very less pressure here except for the new rules, i think i must take a decision when i am really cool. Now that its recession every where i cant go carelessly and resign and later remain jobless. I must make a wise decision. thanks for your valuable response.

Your job now sounds like most of my jobs have been my entire life. One was even worse than what you are going through now... we not only had a time card we had to punch when coming and going, but there were also bells rung when we were to begin work, when we could take a break, take our lunch, and when to leave. We could not "punch out" until after that bell had rung. I felt like I was in a prison in that job. My last job was just as you describe yours is now. Maybe it wasn't as bad because those rules were in place when I was hired. I KNEW what to expect. I think you should hold off a bit if you continue to feel like quitting, at least until you have found another job. To me, your job doesn't sound bad at all because I've always worked under conditions such as your are now working under. But, if you are not used to changes like this, I can understand why you would feel caged. Working where you are unhappy is not something you should have to do for long. If you continue to be unhappy, by all means, find yourself another job. Just remember, there are probably worse jobs out there. If you do look for a new job, make sure the one you choose doesn't have the rules in place that you don't like.

i dont know if the economy is as bad there or if people are having as hard a time finding a new job. here its nearly impossible to get another if you either get fired or quit. id make sure i had a pretty good chance if i were you. unless you dont need it.

I think if you are unsatified with your current job and want to change another one, you'd better keep it now until you find the actual job than can promise your not losing jo. Wish you luck!

Hi, what i feel is whether i get another job or not, just to put down my papers, i have told him many times that i have problem if my shift is changed to early timings, he has changed many associates shifts on the floor but not mine, now, if he is so adamant, i dont feel like working and behaving as one who has no other way but working under him. what do you say? when there is a genuine reason people must consider right? anyways, i am so irritated today my dear friend, thanks for your suggestion.

I think you should quit the job if you really feel that you are not able to do the job. I had been working for night shift for around 4 years continuously and one of the reason I stuck the job because I needed extra money and I had no options at that time. I worked in the daytimes also during that time doing home trans for another company. After quiting the job after four years, I began to feel life like a heaven with good sleep in all seven days a week rather than two to three days a week and good sleep during the night. I think it you should quit the job and should look for another job most probably in the day shift.
