^_^ Howdy people of myLot!.... Vatican hosts Darwin conference To mark the 150th anniversary of Darwin's Origin of Species the Vatican are holding a five day conference on the subject of evolution and creationism. "The Vatican is sponsoring a five day conference to mark the 150th anniversary of the publication of Charles Darwin's Origin of Species. The subject is the compatibility of evolution and creation. It is one of two separate international academic conferences being sponsored by the Vatican this year. " Full Article.... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7920205.stm Additional article.... The Vatican claims Darwin's theory of evolution is compatible with Christianity As the day of Charles Darwin's 200th birthday arrives, the Vatican has made a startling admission that Darwin's theory of evolution should not have been dismissed and that it is actually compatible with the concept of creationism. The Vatican is also thought to be planning to play down the idea of intelligent design at a conference this March 2008 marking the 150th anniversary of Darwin's "On the Origin of Species". "The Vatican has admitted that Charles Darwin's theory of evolution should not have been dismissed and claimed it is compatible with the Christian view of Creation. Archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi, head of the Pontifical Council for Culture, said while the Church had been hostile to Darwin's theory in the past, the idea of evolution could be traced to St Augustine and St Thomas Aquinas." Full Article.... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/religion/4588289/The-Vatican-claims-Darwins-theory-of-evolution-is-compatible-with-Christianity.html ^_^ God Bless Us!.... I have always believed that God evolved us. He created the earth in 7 days, sure, but 7 of HIS days--and who knows how long those could be? Same with us. God is a scientist, look at what He created, it's perfect and seamless until we mess with it then it heals itself. It makes sense that we evolved rather than arriving as we are now. The Genesis account was written by men for people who would never understand the concept of evolution--it was tailored to the times.

This is so true. There are some people who lived to be like 900 years old in the bible. Its totally believable that what we think of as a day or year is not the same timeframe to God.

I can only say that it is a long overdue recognition of the inquisitive spirit of the Christian world. A lot of scientific discoveries and inventions have come from these people and of all the religious groups I see here on Mylot, Christians comprise the most in questioning and debating about their own faith. This certainly does not mean that they are leaving their faith, it simply means they are seeking knowledge and not following blindly. A faith should be strong enough to withstand the onslaught of the scientific mind by knowing how to re-interpret itself to changing times…the Vatican has finally acknowledge this truth.

That's very interesting. I would love to attend that conference. I'm particularly interested in this: "A leading American scholar of biology, Prof Francisco Ayala, plans to tell the conference that the so-called theory of intelligent design, proposed by Creationists, is flawed. "The design of organisms is not what would be expected from an intelligent engineer, but imperfect and worse," he said. "Defects, dysfunctions, oddities, waste and cruelty pervade the living world". "

Darwins theory is false its the worst story to surface this guy darwin got bored in a ship(hms) and started writing a fictional story called natural selection He liked his own story and proposed it as a theory which some of the brainless of that time accepted its just like telling that harry potter is a true story and wizards do exist Darwins theory is just a big baseless careless useless joke Lol Have a gr8 time Njoy

that gives it! i salute the vatican for the two beliefs: that of darwin and that of the bible really is only one. darwin's millions of years' evolution is called day 1, day 2 up to day 7 in genesis. the thought that not a lot people would appreciate this conference and the vatican still chose to have it makes me believe that they are really the chosen ones there. bravery is not only what kept our faith alive. ingenuity as well.

An absolute aim of Science is to find the truth. It may be in the path of Darwin or Vertican, but the main necessity is rational and realistic approach for deriving the truth be perception of reality. The findings are not the destination, rather a journey for realising the truth in a better as well as greater way! Thanks for this nice posting and have a good day!

I happen to like to think of things a little differently than most. If a god created humans did he have to do it instantaniously Or could he have been like a sculptor continually molding the clay with each sucessive generation until he reached his final product? That would then work with Darwins theory. Thinking like that allows science to explain the how & religiion to explain the why. People always want to take the bible ( a book written & edited repeatidly by faliable men ) too literally. Who determined how long gods days would have been? How could he have created the earth on the first day when a DAY is one full rotation of the earth? There was no measure of time at that point. Heck god could be sitting on some planet off in the middle of some distant galexy that rotates once every billion years. Would that not then be considered a DAY to him? Oh lets not forget at one time the church swore up & down that the Earth was the center of the universe & was more than happy to torture or execute anyone who disputed it. Glad we got that out of the way before we launched the first rockets.

I don't know what to say in this case, I watched BBC and Cardinal William Levada(Head of the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith), and he said differently on his comment that the Catholic Church does not stand in the way of scientific realities like evolution, though he described as "absurd" the atheist notion that evolution proves there is no God. Whatever, let us see the outcome.

Simple answer to this ridiculous Darwin Theroy..I haven't seen a ape or a fish turn into a human being yet.. If it is true we come from apes..have the apes decided that it wasn't worth it becoming humans and the rest remained apes?Ridiculous right? Well, so is the Darwin theroy..Satan will do anything to take our mind of the real Creator of human species. If you read the Bible and compare what Darwin has written..the Bible is much more believable.

I don't think there's anything wrong with believing in God and still believing in Darwin's theory. It's true we don't see apes turning into humans but we still see evolution now. The church does not necessarily believe in evolution however they do not disagree that the time frame of the Bible is not set in stone.
