Do you purchase books you like to read OR borrow them from the Library?

I almost always borrow books from libraries, rather than purchase them. I do this for economic reasons. I look forward to your responses.

I'd prefer to purchase rather than borrowing the book. Plus I can't remember when was the last time I went to the library anyway, hahaAll I remember was in college days & that must be about 5-7 years ago? Haha

It's nice that you and your friends have similar tastes in books, and that you can exchange them. Happy reading to you, too!

hi fineartist, first of all i would definately like to go and check at my library before hitting to any book store. then i would also like to go and check with one of my friend because hers and mine taste in reading matches a lot. so i sometimes go and check at her place also when i feel a bit bore at my place because i ike her collection. the last place is the book store always for me. before that it is always library,no doubt, when i am a member there, i will take that advantage rather than going out and buying.

Actually I prefer to buy mine b/c I like to re-read them a bunch of times. I've lived in this town for some 18 years and I think I've been to the library like twice. With the pc, I go even less. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Yes. I do both. I normally read the books I'm interested in by borrowing them first. If they turn out to be winners, I buy them. If not, no harm, no foul. If I bought all the books I was interested in, I could probably support the publishing industry all by my lonesome and would have to obtain a whole house just to house the library. However, to prevent the eventual over-run of my living arrangement, I borrow. I think the library is a terrific resource for people to sort of "test-drive" their books. You can obtain nearly any book you're looking for and you get to read it for free. Some books only need to be read once. Some need to be savored over and over again.

I visit the library alot. I do like to buy books but if I do it is nearly always from a second hand book shop or a charity shop. Sometimes if I need to buy a book for my degree course then I will get it new from a bookshop though. I visit the library on average about once a week although I have phases where I visit it nearly everyday and then not for a while. I borrow all kinds of things, not just books. I borrow CD's, DVD's, games and magazines too. They quite often get in the magazines I would normally buy in the shop so as long as you don't mind waiting a bit is worth going down to the local library!

If its all up to me, I would prefer to buy my books. But with money currently tight, I depend on my local library to provide me with my books. I'm just so happy that the library system I belong to has a very current selection. I usually used their online services where I basically browse for the books I want, request them, and wait until they are delivered to my home. Yes, I pretty much used the library as my book version of Netflix. They are just great. Just yesterday, when I got home, I have 4 books and 2 audiobooks waiting for me at home, for my March readings. If not for the library, I would probably be broke trying to feed my reading addiction..LOL..

I only tend to buy books when I get a gift card to a book store. I work at a library, so I pretty much check out books, CDs and movies from there. Most of the time, I am only reading a book once, so why should I buy something that I am not going to keep?

i understand your point of view, which is similar to mine. i, too, buy books at a book store, if i receive a gift card to do so.

I like to buy my own copy to read. Whenever I go to a bbokstore or see a book I like, I go ahead and buy it. But recently I have started getting books from the library.....it is cost effective!! But if I have a choice, i would rahther buy and add to my personal collection. i love collecting books!!

I visit my local library once a week. I really like reading novels and non-fiction books like ones about travel. I can borrow up to twenty books at a time but I get fined if they get overdue. I have a book case with three shelves were I keep my own books that I have purchased in the past. They are favorite books or ones that are especially useful. I sometimes take books I don't read to a charity shop. I buy new books when I need to and don't purchase many.

Hi, if the local libraries here have a good collection of books, then I could borrow from them. However their selection is very limited - almost hopeless. So I usually buy my books, mostly from used book stores, which are very much cheaper.

hello fineartist when that i get finished reading a book i love to go to the book store at the mall and stay there for hours trying to decide which book that it is that i want to purchase next. but i have been to the library before also. thing about that is you have to keep returning the books. lol but i like to enjoy reading the book, and with a busy lifestyle, sometimes i have no time at all during the days to read a book. then when that it is bedtime, i am too tired and sleepy to be reading anything. lol i do not read a book that often either, i might buy a new book twice or three times a year is all. this past Christmas, i purchased a ten dollar gift certificate from the book store to give as a gift to somebody in the family. take care and have a beautiful afternoon.

i first read the book by borrowing it from a library.then if i like it to that extent that i feel i need to have a copy i buy one,, the reason is that a room in my house is already full of books.there isnt any further space left to store all my precious books..........

I always go to the library to borrow the books I enjoy reading. I feel that buying the books is economically unadvisable during the current circumstances. Also I feel that the library is an asset that is underused by most of society.

I usually borrow books from the library instead of buying them. I love reading and if I had to buy all the books that I read it would get far too expensive. I think that the library is a great thing, and I can spend many hours there looking for books that I want to read. My friends often get impatient if we go to the library together, because I like to spend a lot of time there Sometimes I buy the books that I have borrowed from the library (if I like them a lot and want to read them again)

well whenever i want to read a book of my choice i dont like to go to library and read them but i just like to buy my own copy of the book and preserve it with me for a long time till i read and i am satisfied, but i like to get my own collections rather than just going in the library and reading them, i would prefer to donate the book to the library after i am done but i just love to own my copy in this case
