I am not in love with flying but given the choice I'd pick an airplane trip over a long drive any day. I am not one of those people who can spend hours in a car driving across the country. I'd rather hop on a plane and pick up a car at the airport. I took a trip by train to a conference in the next state once and when I arrive and found I could have driven there in a fraction of the time I was not particularly happy. Trains at least have more room to move about. I took my car on a trip upstate a few months back, my very first solo roadtrip anywhere longer than an hour's drive. It was quite an adventure with my family calling every few minutes to find out where I was. Actually, that was my second solo trip. The first was about a 2 hour drive just before. This photo was taken on one of my last flights. What is your favorite way to travel?

i love flying, especially if i'm going overseas to another country to explore...but i DO love roadtrips!! roadtrips are great because you get to see the countryside, stop and take crazy pics...end up going crazy and laughing til it hurts for no reason - great stuff! i just drove 1500 miles with my sis in a penske truck, moving my stuff across country with my car in tow...now THAT was an adventure!!

Driving is my thing. I know long distance journey can be stressful, but let's say a holiday trip where time is not an important factor, then i would always choose driving. Take some friends along so we could switch places when tired. I tried it once, it was so much fun. We could stop at will, take pictures at beautiful natural landscape.

Did you watch the movie of Steve Martin "Planes, trains and automobiles" ? I like that movie, its quite funny but it has some lessons behind it. If you have not watch it, you can take a chance of it on HBO. I like all modes of transportation. I have taken a flight in the plane, I also ride the old and the new trains, cars, motorcycles and tricycles. I have been in other countries and I always ride the subtrains (BTS in Bangkok, MRT in Singapore). I also have an Elephant ride in Thailand! :)

I don't have HBO. I have never seen the movie because of the cast. I have only seen a few Steve Martin movies I liked watching where he wasn't quite as silly with the physical comdedy. Did you see Lost in Translation? How was the elephant ride?

No I have not seen Lost in Translation Steve Martin in the movie "Planes, trains and automobiles" have a different character there, he was so serious... until he met the other guy which became funny... you should try to watch it. The elephant ride was great

Actually I prefer the drive. When we were kids we traveled alot with my Mom and so the drives bring back alot of pleasant memories. These days I really wouldn't want to get on a plane unless it was an absolute must. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

We used to take drives to the country with our grandparents as kids. Those were fun because it was always an adventure.

I have never been on a plain (or a train), but long distant trips in the car can be a nightmare. Last September we went on vacation with my husband's family. It was me, my husband, our son, his parents, and six of his brothers and sisters. We drove from Midland, TX to Muskegon, MI. It was a horrible trip. Way too long, way too many people, way too little space. I have also taken the bus long distance. I took it from Wisconsin to Texas. It was easier then the car trip because the bus gives you a little more room, a bathroom (if you are very needy), and more luggage space. Either way...flying seems better.

OMG! That is way too many people to be cooped up with in any type of vehicle. I have not traveled this way with my family in many years just because they drive me crazy on land. I hate traveling by bus, more power to you!

I prefer to travel by car. I don't drive myself and before I met my fiance I always travelled by train or by bus, but I love travelling by car, because we are much more independent that way, and we don't have to worry about timetables etc. If I can't travel by car, I prefer going by bus or by train, because that gives me a chance to look at my surroundings while I am travelling, and I feel that I enjoy my trip more that way. I am not afraid of flying, and if I want to go on long trip flying is sometimes the only option, but it is not my favourite way of travelling.

I love to travel by train most of all. In the day I can look out of the window and see the scenery and I feel comfortable because there is usually lots of legroom. In the night it is excellent when I sleep in a bunk in a compartment. I have taken trains in many different countries in Europe, the USA, Kenya, Australia and New Zealand. However train services in the world are limited compared to planes that travel in the air. They can travel long distances in a matter of hours. The longest plane trips that I have done are London to Los Angeles, Singapore to London and London to Cape Town, 12 to 14 hours. I find the leg room cramped and the seats can get uncomfortable on long haul flights. I always try to get a window seat. I adore traveling to far away places so I am happy to travel by plane.

I took the train to Jackson, Mississippi once and it was interesting because the train went through areas where there were no roads or houses or anything and it made me think of what the country looked like before Europeans started settling across it.

Hey first of all, want to congratulate you for reaching your 500th post. 2nd of all, Guess what I am finally getting your notifications in my email. I reset the notification at work and it worked. Ok Now to the discussion. I've traveled many a time across country in automobile. The older I get, the harder it gets for me to be able to sit that long without being stiff and achy the next day. I haven't flown in a long time, but I did enjoy it when I did. I don't think I would like to take a train, though it would be much better way to travel than a bus.

Hi, Canellita! I am scared of flying in an airplane. And I know that I would be too tired to drive for such a long distance. I may have someone else drive. We will take turns. I may just take a train to travel by. It is faster, and I can spend more time resting more than anything.

I thought I would feel that way on my first real train trip but I guess I was too restless to really rest. Perhaps if I could have been able to be in one of those private cars with the bunk it would have been different.

I like to travel a lot. For nearby provinces, i usually go by trains, designated for tourism, hence less stops, and relatively fast to reach the destination, usually one or two hours. The trains are roomy, where you can walk a bit. Riding in car is more convenient to the individual scenic spots within reasonable reach, but not solo drive, for the high tolls along the way. Highways are constructed to provide easy linking. If not for the soaring price of petrol and toll, it should be fun for weekends. For places beyond easy reach, air flights are my choice. As i have plenty of time all year round, i will choose time of low price, usually after holidays.

I bought a used car after the storm that had a few leaks and now that they are fixed I have started driving in the state. I hope to take a trip to North Carolina soon and I will probably drive.

I enjoy taking long and short car trips. There are rules to this whole thing. My dad loved to take car trips with no stops. It was the first time in my life that I became car sick. Never Again. If I take a car trip, I enjoy taking breaks to get out and walk, use the bathroom, and eat. I like to take a small case with me filled with things to do when I am not driving. Flying is nice. I do not like delays, broken planes, stuffy airports. I do enjoy getting someplace without spending days to get there. I have often wondered how it would be to travel in an RV. The only thing I do not think I would like is the upkeep of the vehicle.

I usually try and take stuff with me so I don't have to stop as much but recently I have been driving alone so I just want to get to where I am going. It would be nice to have an RV because I could use it during hurricane season when the call comes to evacuate and hotel rooms are in short supply.

train - Planes, trains and automobiles
my favorite way to travel is by train, in some respects. I suffer form panick attacks for years, and the aircraft can not even view it from afar, is a too narrow for me and will not give me the certainty that if I miss tha air for you or I can get off an attack. I experienced the train because it is much broade environment, I can read, get uo and walk etc...for me it is a safety. The machine the rule for too long, traffic etc...etc...the only usa for short distance.

I don't like flying much. I've find it a bit bland, with less sceneries than ground traveling. And trains here are such a pain, because you are compressed inside with other passengers like a sardines. Automobiles are different. The sceneries are much better (for long driving in the provinces), adventurous and thrilling. It's made more special when driving with my love ones.

I am surrounded by water on all sides and have to cross it every time I want to go someplace. We joke that we actually live on an island. I really don't like driving over all that water.

my favourite way to travel is by plane. i like to saty above the clouds, above the hole world, to be on top of everything. i also like to travel by car, in this way you can visit a lot of places, see the world by car. so, let's pack the bags and start traveling.

Canellita, I would usually like to fly to my holiday destination and pick up a rental car to explore around. Being in a working class, holiday trips for me are rather hard to come by and relatively limited and short in duration. So, I cannot afford rail or long distance coaches to reach my destination. Renting a car and exploring on my own is quite a thrilling experience indeed. We get to visit the places that we really want and stay as long as we like at a favorite spot without having to be rushed by other tour group members in group tours. However, of late I seem to be enjoying cruises as well and the recent trip to the Bahamas was really magnificent and breathtaking. Cheers.

I have never taken a trip with a tour group and I am not sure I would want to since I would want to see what I would want and when. I've never had a long overseas flight experience.

I can honestly count the number of times I have ever flown on my fingers not including my thumb or pinky. I hate to fly and would rather die than have to get on an airplane. I am the one that will drive across the usa in 2 days rather than fly in 2 hours. I love to travel have been all over the US and every where I have been I have driven. I feel that you see so much more when you drive. Not to mention no one controls your trip when your driving. If you want to stop and check out the oddity on the side of the road you are free to do so. When you fly or take a train or bus you are on someone elses schedule and have to accomadate them. I can remember when I was a young child and traveling with my grand parents some of the coolest things we saw we never would have seen had we not been driving. The US is a great place to visit and in my opinion you cant get a true grasp of how emense it truly is when you travel by any other means.

I can count my plane trips as well since flying was not often in my budget. The most significant site I saw on the road was while driving to for a wedding with my family. There was a KKK booksale on the said of the road in broad daylight hoods and all!

I love flying for the fact that you get where you are going much faster than you would by car. But I also love to take long car trips. I drive about 600 miles semi annualy, to see friends who live far away. These trips take about 9 hours one way, and I absolutely love them. I love the act of driving and I can really just relax and listen to music in the car. It does get tedious occasionally but I think I would take the fun act of driving, even with the length, over flying somewhere any day. Also, it can be cheaper than an airplane ticket, especially if you are travelling with more than one person.

My knees can't take being cooped up in the car for that long. My stepmother and I do well on the car trips because we get out and stretch our legs and take bathroom breaks.

The longest train ride I took was to Atlanta and when it reached Alabama I wanted to get off and walk the rest of the way.
