I got my hope chest when I graduated from Highschool from my sister, who's grandfather in law made it for me. I still have it with me and i hope one day to pass it down to my daughter. It's filled with memories of my childhood, along with things that were giving to me that are important to me threw out my marriage. On sappy days, I will go to it and open it up just so I can smell the cedar that it's made from.

Nah, i never kept a hope chest. Never really thought about it. i don't think that it applies too much for today's society. I wouldn't even know what to keep in there. I guess if a woman wanted to keep her mom's wedding dress? I don't know. Now memories are digitized. My sister bought a big cedar shest after she was married and keeps alot of her kids special memories in there. Stuff like batismal gowns and scout badges. but I can't think of it being practical as a "hope" chest.

its amazing what people put in there though.. i have seen people collecting kitchen stuff and bedding just to have it sit for like 20 years because they wait and marry when they are middle age which made me wonder if they were in good shape after sitting that long

I have a "hope chest" When i was in highschool i kept things like dishes, towels etc that were given to me as gifts in it for when i moved out to go to college. I never used it in the traditional sense of in hopes of getting married. Now it sits at the end of my bed in my room and holds the linens. Its a treasure each of the Granddaughters in my moms family have that my Granddad built for us each.
