Yesterday I received notice that I go to jury duty on March 30, 2009. Today, I called the Census Bureau and they want me to start training on March 30, 2009. Both for the same day. I couldn't believe it! Same exact day. There are 365 days in a year and both want me on the same day! Census Bureau said they would consider me for other positions as they came up or I could call the Commissioner of Jurors and tell her I was starting a new job that day. I said I would need an actual job offer. She said, "This IS an ACTUAL JOB OFFER!" So I called the Commissioner of Jurors and she said to write, "Starting new job, can't go to jury duty." I couldn't believe it. They'll canvas me for another day. I almost fainted. The Census person had told me to call back asap. So I did, I start work March 30, 2009. I hope they like me so much that they hire me for more than the 5 to 13 weeks she said. I thought if I got into the Census they would hire me for this year and next year at least and possibly next year. $13 an hour, I'm very happy, plus it's a State job I think. I have to go run some errands, but I'm very excited about all this. Wish me luck, there is a lot to the job and I will be trained for only 5 days. Lots of questions and numbers. Wish me luck.
