I have an appointment for a physical today at 10. I am sitting here hungry no coffee. I tried to get a earlier appointment, but doctor did not have any available. I probably should of ask my doctor why it is so important to fast. Anyone knows the reason why I cannot have a snack. I am not asking for a big meal just a snack.

Fasting is basically preferred to make body in a stable condition which helps in analyzing the true condition of body.If you eat or drink anything then there are chances that tests so not show the exact picture and may misguide.

Yes!As others have stated,if the doctor wants to know your sugar level, then he could have asked you to come with an empty stomach. But He could have directed you to the lab instead first. But we shall not doubt the doctor's intentions. You could have straightly asked this to himself.Be bold to raise questions.Cheers!

As the other responder said a fast is needed if you're having blood work done. Your blood glucose level (to test for diabetes) for example wouldn't be conclusive without a fast.

When your blood work is done you generally need to be fasting. I dont know the reason for this, but it is always recomended that you be fasting prior to getting your bloodwork done. I have often had this as part of my physicals so I am used to it. Fortuntaley I get into the doctor very fast. I like it.

Fasting is only done if you have you blood be checked for the amount of glucose or in other terms the blood sugar level you have had. This is to determine if you are a diabetic or not. So it is very important that you should not eat anything 12 hours prior your suppose examination so as to get the exact value of your blood sugar.

I have only had a physical once and didn't have to fast. Unless your getting blood work done. If blood work is done it is important that you fast before they do it. I always have to fast for bloodwork.
